Description
We went back to the task of opening the barrel. Raoul put his clasped hands under it, and with one last effort, I pried out the stopper.
"What's this?" cried Raoul. "It's not water!"
He put his two full hands close to my lantern. I leaned over them, and immediately threw the lantern away from us so violently that it broke and went out -- and was lost to us.
What I had just seen in Raoul's hands was gunpowder!

I've finally done another Leroux scene! My paintings have been very Kay-cetric recently, but my brother suggested this, and I thought it was a great idea for a painting. So here it is!
Also, the title is meant to be "Gunpowder!", but dA doesn't allow exclamation points in titles
