A photo of my new guitar, which is an Ibanez Les Paul Custom from 1975.Back in the days this was supposed to be a more affordable alternative to gibson's Black Beauty Les Paul and nowadays, it's an affordable alternative to any les paul imo. I've played 2 gibson LP's (studio and faded) and several epi's and none came close to this one.... But I have to say those were all new (or: after 2005) instruments.
This is also a pre-lawsuit model, easily recognizable by the "open book" or "moustache" headstock style, which gibson later on claimed as "MINE!!!". (In fact it wasn't the just the heads they weren't happy with, but these guitars come damn close to a real gibson for just a fraction of the price)
The backdrop is my bedsheet, lol.

This is a. from the era when they naturally dried the wood.
B. back in the days it was already known as the cheap alternative to a gibson, rivaling it's sound, second only to a "Tokai"
So yeah, with this you get a dirt cheap guitar which sounds better than a brand new gibson studio. And maybe even standard.
Which cost 10 times as much.

Almost sounds like my Clarinet as opposed to other people's because their's was made of plastic while mine was made of wood.
Their's had the advantage of not being vulnerable to temperature so it was less likely for the sound to go sharp or flat.
However, mine had better sound.

there are more copies yes.
Most are bad though, my fave copy guitar that you can buy new is the esp-ltd one. has the nicest style.
Stay clear of cheap pieces of shit, for they are just that.

There also are some brilliant copies out there though, like Dean's "Soltero" guitar.

Actually, mine's one of the last to come in this particular shape with this headstock.
Cause gibson sued them shortly after for it.
But yeah, nowadays there are a lot of cheap les paul ripoffs.
But they're mostly that, rip-offs.
Only safe bets are with London City, ESP, PRS, DEAN, Epiphone and Gibson themselves imo.
Oh, and the Agile company also makes nice guitars, my friend just got one of their LP replica's
