Whenever I try to draw that, it always looks solid throughout, never looking like it fades a bit towards the middle.

Not so sure, I use the linework layers in SAI when doing the lineart and the shading _(:'3/L)_
Since I use a mouse, my lines look solid so I adjust the pressure of the line making the middle part fade XD Are you using a tablet? Because if you do, it actually depends on the pressure of your pen on your tablet I guess...

What's a 'linework layer'? I don't use SAI, so I'm not familiar with this term
Well, I have no idea if I can adjust the pressure of lines in Clip Studio.... Yeah, I use a tablet, so there is pressure sensitivity there, but I just never gets that result -.-

The linework layer in SAI is a vector layer where it has the line tool, curve tool, pressure tool, etc. That layer is mostly used to draw straight lines like for BGs or also if you're not using a tablet XD
I'm not surewhat features Clip Studio has though since I don't have one orz Ah I see, try experimenting on it so you can get the desired pressure sensitivity there

The linework layer in SAI is the reason why I can draw straight lines and neat curves using a mouse without it, my drawings would look like as if they're drawn using MS Paint LOL

Oh, I see ^H^ In Clip Studio, it's just called a 'vector layer'. Not much room for confusion XD
Except in my vector layers, I don't need to use curve tools and whatnot. I can still freely draw, however it 'snaps' the lines and curves so that it looks a little neater ^H^

I think I downloaded a trial version of it once and tried drawing the lines manually and noticed that it does snap, though it was still really hard since I only use a mouse
