Description "If you're going to build a time machine into a car, why not do it with some style?" - Doc Brown (Christopher Lloyd), "Back to the Future"

The DeLorean DMC-12 is one of the most famous cars of the 1980s. From 1981 to 1982, only 6500 cars were sold. Despite its sharp looks, the DeLorean was slow, held back by a V6 engine, and other components were unreliable, such as the single gas strut that propped up each gullwing door. But the car remains a pop-culture symbol, thanks to its role as Doc Brown's time machine. This particular DeLorean is on loan to the Virginia Museum of Transportation in Roanoke, whose staff kindly moved a few signs out of the way to give me a clearer picture.

There were only 16 right-hand-drive DeLoreans, which were converted from the factory-standard left-hand drive by Wooler-Hodec of Hampshire, England under the authorization of DMC.

None of the RHD cars came out of the factory that way, as the car was mainly for the American market.  DeLorean authorized Wooler-Hodec to convert them from left-hand drive to right-hand drive.  This let DMC save the money that would be required to build RHD from scratch.

It's pointless to have left and right hand drone in the same plant.
