Description These models of three Imperial Japanese Navy (IJN) minelayers and Patrol Boat 102 are on display aboard the museum battleship HIJMS Mikasa in Yokosuka.  From left to right, the three minelayers are HIJMS Minoo (in service for only a week before Japan surrendered), HIJMS Itsukushima (first IJN diesel ship, sunk by a Dutch submarine), and HIJMS Okinoshima (the largest purpose-built IJN minelayer).  The rightmost ship, Patrol Boat 102, was commissioned in 1920 as U.S. Navy destroyer USS Stewart (DD-224).  The Americans scuttled it at Surabaya in 1942, but -- as they did with Russian ships in the 1904-1905 Russo-Japanese War -- the Japanese refloated USS Stewart, rebuilt it from a four-funnel ship to a three-funnel ship, and recommissioned it as Patrol Boat 102.  It helped CD-22 sink the submarine USS Harder (SS-257), though its combat effectiveness was limited by the liberation of the Philippines and the Allied bombing of a Japanese base in occupied Korea.  Patrol Boat 102 limped back to Japan and was abandoned near Kure, where the Americans found it and recommissioned it as DD-224.  The ship was returned to America in 1946 and sunk as a bombing target off the coast of San Francisco, California.

US sailors dubbed the ex 102  ex Stewart as 'Ramp' (recovered allied military personnel) when taking her back to the US.
