Description This set of "armors for man and horse," as the Metropolitan Museum of Art labels it on the placard, was gathered from several Islamic civilizations, which made the armor and weapons between 1450 and 1550.  This knight uses a combination of Indian, Persian, Ottoman Turkish, and Mamluk (Egyptian/Syrian) equipment such as a conical helmet (Iranian/Russian style), dhal (round shield), and tabar (battle-axe).  He would not look out of place capturing Constantinople or securing the establishment of the Mughal or Safavid empires, though soon both his comrades and his enemies would be carrying more guns than swords....
