Description London Saint Pancras railway station was opened in 1868 by the Midland Railway and is famous for its Victorian Gothic architecture. Adjoining the station is the luxury hotel, which shares the station's style. Now that the Eurostar moved to St Pancras in 2007, the station is known as St Pancras International, and serves France just as easily as it serves the Midlands or Yorkshire. It often appears on film, and its facade doubled for King's Cross in the final Harry Potter movie.

Truly one of the grandest railway stations in the world. It's a shame though that as part of the remodeling for the Eurostar service they turned most of the old Victorian trainshed into a shopping mall.

Incidentally, I heard a rumor somewhere that there were plans to restore the station hotel to operation. Can you shed any light on this?

The hotel has been reopened as the St Pancras Renaissance London Hotel, and the ceremony was in May 2011. The current hotel is owned by the Marriott chain. I suppose adding a shopping mall boosts revenue...when passenger traffic fell in America, the Washington DC Union Station survived by turning the great hall into a multilevel shopping mall.
