Description The Snowdon Mountain Railway (SMR) opened 121 years ago today to carry tourists up the tallest mountain in Wales.  Today, most of the trains are hauled by diesels such as Hunslet No. 9 Ninian, seen here entering Clogwyn with a downhill train.  For safety reasons, the locomotive is always at the downhill end of the train.
