Happy March 1 (삼일절) ! If I have read history correctly, this holiday commemorates the day in 1919 that Korea declared independence from Japan following annexation in 1910. However, Korea did not gain independence until the end of World War 2, and that anniversary is a different holiday. For March 1, many Korean flags are displayed such as this one at Pungnammun Gate (near the Hanok Village and Nambu Market) in Jeonju.
