Description Ffestiniog Railway "Double Fairlie" articulated locomotive Earl of Merioneth II (Iarll Meirionnydd II) pulls its train around an uphill curve as it approaches the former slate mining town of Blaenau Ffestiniog from Tanygrisiau.  In these highlands, the climbing abilities of a Double Fairlie are necessary, particularly when the weather is good and the trains fill up fast with tourists from all over the world.
