Description Early in World War II, the United States developed the M3 Stuart light tank, which was powered by a radial engine.  As radial engines were needed by the aviation industry once the US joined the Allies and intensified industrial production, the M3 was modified into the M5, which was powered by two Cadillac V8 engines, and further developed into the M5A1, which had an improved turret.  U.S. Army M5A1 tank 3046066 Fast Freddie is displayed at the Virginia War Museum, Huntington Park, Newport News.
