Description USS Maine (BB-10) was the U.S. Navy's first Maine-class battleship, and was also the second American ship named for the "Pine Tree State" after USS Maine (ACR-1), the battleship whose sinking in 1898 triggered the Spanish-American War.  The 13,000-ton USS Maine was launched in 1901, and was one of the "Great White Fleet" ships President Theodore Roosevelt ordered to sail around the world from 1907 to 1909 to show off the increasing American military and industrial power.  Due to its poor fuel economy, USS Maine was forced to stay in San Francisco while the rest of the fleet continued sailing.  It was used as a training ship in World War I, decommissioned in 1920, and scrapped in 1922 to comply with the Washington Naval Treaty.  This waterline model of USS Maine is on display at the Los Angeles Maritime Museum in San Pedro, California within view of the museum ship USS Iowa (BB-61).

It is the USS Maine BB-10 battleship built about three years after the USS Maine (ACR-1 battlecrusier) was sunk.  Two different ships.
