Description
Compared to many other electric streetcars, West Penn Railways 739 (West Penn Shops, 1925) had both a long body at 58 feet and a long range -- the core of West Penn was almost 160 miles of track in southwestern Pennsylvania, while the whole railroad was almost twice as long. When automobiles started becoming popular there in the late 1920s, West Penn converted 739 to parlor car Faywest and ran it as an interurban limited express, but as of retirement in 1952 it was back to regular duties. It was used as a house until 1989 and is under gradual restoration at the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum.
