Description

This is the free Sternguard veteran model GW was giving out starting saturday.  I Decided to strive for Golden Demon standard.  I didn't kid myself into think I'd actually be a contender, I also know that I won't reach that level if I don't push myself.

Anyway, it's based in Vallejo Black and Two Thin Coats Doom Death Black.  The tabard and pauldrons are gradients, based in Khorne Red, with a glazed gradient between Mephison Red and Evil Sunz Scarlet.  The tabard has shadows in Flesh Tearers red.  I panel lined the pauldrons in a thin line of Nuln Oil to cover the transition between the red and the silver.

The Gold is Retributer Armor.  I'd started painting the silver with Vallejo Steel, but it was too runny and started getting silver where I didn't want it.  So I switched to a triad of Iron Warrior, Leadbelcher, and Ironbreaker.

The leather bits are Mornfang Brown highlighted with Vallejo Leather Brown, and shaded with Vallejo Chocolate Brown.

The Purity Seal wax is Mephiston Red highlighted in Wazdakka Red.  The parchment is Morghast Bone highlighted in ivory, then washed with Seraphim Sepia, then layered in Morghast Bone because I decided to start over, but the one layer of the bone had subdued the exaggerated elements that when not washed out by glare, it looks right.

The edge highlighting on the armor was first done in Corvus Black, then again in Eshin Gray.

The Bolter Casing is The Fang.  It got an edge highlight with Eshin Gray.

The eye and scope lenses are rebased in Vallejo White, with Army Painter Ork Skin.  The scope lenses got another dot of white for highlight.

The base was a piece of cork painted first in Morghast Brown, drybrushed in Wazdakka Red, with Martian Ironcrust to fill in the edges, then dusted with Mars Dust pigment powder.  The base rim is Vallejo Glossy Black with White Scar for the lettering.

I spent fifteen hours prepping the model and painting.

Any pointers on where to improve to get closer to Golden Demon?
