Description I did not tone this, the color is from the funky old and expired Agfa paper. (which is a nightmare to print on, very strong fogging, curls like crazy)

Camera: Zorki 4k - Jupiter-8
Film: FomaPan 400
Developer: ADOLUX APH 09
Paper: Some very old fiber-based Agfa printing paper

Edit;
The paper is an old AGFA Portriga - Rapid, PRW123 from 1953

Once I showed a girl on the bus my Zorki 4 and I told her it uses film and she laughed.... people just don't understand that film shoots better than digital. Anyways great shot!

Yeah I know. But in my experience Agfa papers does not seem to age as fast as other papers.

I've used regular agfa neutol. But the old paper caused the heavy fogging and 'lith' effect

I was surprised to get an image considering it's age. But this paper made consider switching to fiber based papers. When fresh, I bet it must print wonderfully.

Fiber based papers are very interesting indeed. Todays paper are different though, the emulsion is thinner. Especially in a scanned image, you will notice less difference than expected in most images. I think fiber-based papers yield richer deep tones and sometimes smoother highlight transitions, which one can use to print with brighter whites. This in my experience when comparing Ilford Multigrade Resin Coated and Fiber Based, which should be fairly similar.

I've heard similar things about fiber based papers. When I need to buy new, my next box will be fiber based, and give it a try.
Also, I recently discovered my print dryer doesn't work well with RC papers.

how long did you process this?

roadmouse In reply to robynthepaperboy [2010-09-01 08:43:14 +0000 UTC]

I don't remember the exact details. But I know I had to overexpose and underdevelop a lot.
I think I've exposed this one for 1 till 1,5min, and develop for 15 to 20 sec.

Actually, I'm proud of people who still develop films and print photos themselves. There is something magical when you do it with your own hands. I know, it's really chemical, but still when you are doing it yourself you put a little bit more into every picture. Every fingerprint on a film roll, every dust scratch or overexposure on a fresh print - it's a part of you in there.

roadmouse In reply to rain [2010-08-13 08:13:03 +0000 UTC]

Very true. And that's also what makes it more enjoyable for me.
Personally, I find the quality of my pictures improves if I spend more time working on them. Or maybe that's just the appreciation for the process, like you say.
All I know is that I completely suck at digital photography. All I end up with is hundreds of bad shots.

Only thing missing (I think) is a B-setting for low light conditions.

I have some Olympus Trip shots in my Flickr
