This is hands down the most beautiful fractal wing I have ever seen. The delicate color, the gorgeous shape, the intricate detail....all perfection.

Usually the story decides for me. That probably sounds weird but it's basically what happens. I'll be mulling over a story idea and I sort of start hearing a soundtrack in my head and so I end up making a playlist to match and that's what I listen to more or less while writing. Usually it's music that touches on the emotion or theme of whatever I'm writing and in rare instances it's purely a cultural thing that I guess basically is a way for me to immerse myself in a different place or time.
Music I've been known to write to is very, very diverse. I've written while listening to the soundtrack from The Passion of the Christ which I find very evocative, Loreena McKennitt (especially The Mummer's Dance and The Stolen Child), I prefer dark and angsty for the horror I write (Disturbed, Korn, Marilyn Manson, Nine Inch Nails, etc.), 60's music (Jefferson Airplane, Creedence Clearwater Revival, Norman Greenbaum, etc.), sometimes goth flavored music (Evanescence, Within Temptation, Nightwish, and Conjure One)...I could go on. Sorry you asked yet?
As an example I've been writing a short story off and on for awhile now and the scene I'm on takes place at Woodstock so of course I'll write while listening to anything that fits my concept of what it would have been like to be present. If I mention any particulars in the story referencing a specific song or group then they've been as researched to the best of my ability to get the date and time right and the conditions. It rained a lot. Anyhow even that research is done with my created soundtrack playing if I can manage it.
Ok I think I'll stop now. The music I like: new age, trance, celtic, classic rock, country, bluegrass, classical, pop, modern rock, 80's, 50's, big band...you know what? I don't like music where people scream unintelligibly, elevator music, polka music, and most jazz although I do like blues.
I really am stopping now.

Roaguewolf,
No I am not sorry for asking, as I am very curious about what you like to listen to...
Wow You like the same kinds of music I do! I agree on the part of screaming music. If I can't hear the words to a song, or the music is way to loud and unharmonious....then there is no point to listening to it. Banging and smashing guitars, or screaming like an idiot is not music to me... it is noise! If there are lyrics, I WANT to hear what is being said so I can relate to it!
((The music I like: new age, trance, celtic, classic rock, country, bluegrass, classical, pop, modern rock, 80's, 50's, big band...you know what? I don't like music where people scream unintelligibly, elevator music, polka music, and most jazz although I do like blues.))
I listen to tons of New age and trance music. I also listen to Movie Soundtracks (Braveheart, The Passion of Christ, The Nightmare Before Christmas, Lord of the Rings, Star Wars, Close Encounters, sleepless in Seattle, The Titannic, etc.
I enjoy celtic tunes, classic rock (The Beatles, Elvis, The Doors, Jerry Lee Lewis, The Beach Boys, Johnny Cash, John Lennon, Steve Miller Band, and many others), country, folk (John Denver), classical (Mozart, Bach, Beethoven, Johann Strauss, Brahms, Wagner, Lizst and many others), crystal bowl / tibetan bowl music (great for relaxation or meditation), 80's Rock (The Police, The Cars, Michael Jackson -((back when he was Normal)), Joan Jett, Cyndi Lauper, Madonna, Duran Duran, Foreigner 4, The Eagles, Alan Parsons, Eurythmics, Tears For Fears, Rush, ELO, and many, many others).
I also enjoy world music (Asia - Thailand, Japan, China, Cambodia, Korea, Bali, etc.)
(African Tribal, Native American Indian music, Eastern Indian Ragas, Tibetan and Nepalese music)
I also enjoy european music of England, Scotland, Ireland, Germany, Italian, Spain, South America and Mexico....
I just love music and how it can affect each person's moods and creativity. Without music.... this would be a very dull world .....
