History: Portgas D. Reina is the twin sister of Ace, not that she herself is aware of that fact. For her as well as Ace's safety they were separated at birth. Ace was taken in by Garp and Reina unfortunately was put into an orphanage. The orphanage was not a kind place toward Reina and has left her with some serious mental scars and anger toward Garp for leaving her there. The Nuns that raised her were negligent and uncaring. Reina would have become a much colder closed off person had she not met and befriended Fanel D. Gray. While Gray is the first person to ever to see past Reina's cold and lonely demeanor, it’s Reina that’s able to see the through all of Gray's fake smiles. They bond and become nearly inseparable trusting and relying on only each other during their time together at the orphanage.

When she turned fourteen she and Gray ran away from the orphanage in order to escape the prison those walls created for them. They left the island and became drifters training their bodies to become stronger with each island they visited while also working endlessly to make a living for themselves. All is well for three years until Reina sees the bounty poster of Portgas D. Ace. Learning that she may have a sibling out there Reina decides to form her own pirate crew and set out to sea to find him. Gray not wanting Reina to go out alone becomes her first mate and thus the Hibiscus Pirates are born.
