Description
And here comes yet more shameless Wings of Fire fan art. In the back of my mind, I have been playing around with a story for the series, set a few centuries after the mainstream books. In the past, I found the idea of the WoF hybrids to be almost silly, childish. However, the stories do have a light focus on breaking down social barriers, and the more I think about it, the more possibilities this opens up around the series. What if combining genes mixed the abilities as well, forming new abilities, in a way.
For instance, another series that I like, Mistborn, plays around with the power of foresight. This ability allows the character to see faint shadow images of objects around them one second into the future. This might not sound all that strong, but, in a fight, it allows the user to see and counter all attacks sent their way, even projectiles. What if a Nightwing Skywing hybrid worked the same way, not getting the full ability to see the future and the full Skywing's concentration, but rather, a mix of both in the form of this ability? Regardless, I am calling the hybridization a "night sky". Simple, yet sounding fun- or at least I think so.
Anyways, the above character, I have nicknamed "Wraster" for now. His ability would have set him- and his hybrid stereotype as a whole- as an assassin, and he always carries around a blade on each leg as a result. The head leans more heavily towards his nightwing heritage, but the tail and wings- despite the star pattern- point more towards the Skywing lineage. The coloration would be a mix of a red skywing and the darker nightwing. Low key, though, it is a reference to Thorn's wine red scales (This Thorn , not this one ). The first part of the story would focus on him as he recieves a mission to kidnap an enemy's daughter. When he finds that she is being hunted by other assassins, he finds himself conflicted to protect her- and the mission- and later on finds himself questioning his own core values. No matter what path he chooses, they all come with major consequences.
The background for this took far longer then I wanted it to, and it didn't come out quite how I imagined it. However, we all probably feel that way about our work. The desert city is supposed to be an expanded version of the Sandwing castle, which would probably have had some massive growth after the centuries. I will have to be careful about doing city backgrounds in the future- on top of needing a lot of detail, they seem rather annoying to do.
Regardless, that is all that I have for now. The original designs for the characters were done by Joy Ang. Thank you all for stopping by, and, if the idea sounds nice, please comment to let me know!
