Hmm, not that many people commented on the political aspect of this. I am a hard right winger, and I believe the department of education should be dismantled, but I don't believe just because you're taking funding from one area doesn't mean you should go and instantly start spending it in another area, especially in the situation we're in and with the kind of debt we've accumulated, I think we should only work to lessen more of our spending instead of reallocating it. I'm gonna favorite this, just because it's so refreshing to see some artpiece on education that isn't liberal drivel saying how we need to increase spending towards it. Not exactly the policy I'd like to be supporting but I suppose it's a turn somewhat towards that general direction.

Personally, I find it to be a good idea, but idealistic (I don't really have a choice when hired to draw the subject matter So the POV is not mine). States have been noticeably lazy/underfunded about education and while I'm not a at all fan of the government stepping in I am equally not a fan of the half-assed public education that seems to be running rampant.
I have to disagree: Education (in general) needs more money because we need teaching to become something more than a "civic duty job." If it was a competitive, higher paying job there would be more competition over good salaries which equals more job applicants (not to mention more qualified applicants), better text books and supplies, more jobs, and, most importantly, teachers who actually know about and *care* about what they are teaching. I don't really know where this money will come from, but it needs it.
Great and Qualified teachers are spread so thin in our public education system. They deserve more for their hard work and the inspiration they give to students. They're saints for putting up with what they have and I think they are more than worthy of a decent raise when almost every degree-requiring, salary job out there pays more.

Well, you did a very good job of selling the point in that piece, I'd say you did your job well. But as for what you're saying on how we need more money in education for higher paid teachers as well as more teachers and better text books and supplies, more jobs, and teachers who know and care about what they teach, I think Thomas Sowell said a great quote when he said, "nothing is easier than to prove that something human has imperfections. I'm amazed at how many people devote themselves to that task." In fact, that speech where he said it is very relevant to education and heavily supports my position so I'm just going to provide the link to you. [link]
"Government is never more dangerous than when the desire to have it help us aligns it to its great power to harm us." That's Ronald Reagan. The desire to have the government help us and take care of us comes from a desire of a eutopean society that frankly, has never existed and will never exist under a human dominated society. The idea that if you throw your wealth at something enough you'll fix it is an extraordinarily flawed idea, which sounds logical when thinking about it as a consumer, I mean you pay more for something you expect more, but there's absolutely no imperical evidence to support such an idea actually works when it comes to societal issues. It's no wonder thousands and thousands of Americans take to the streets and protest government spending under the slogan taxed enough already (f.y.i. if you're not familiar the tea party). That pretty much sums up a good chunk of the reason I support my views, and something for you to think about for what you support and why.

Dude....did I try to convert you? No. I stated what I believed in after you tl;dr'd about what you believed in on a piece that I was HIRED to make. SO go preach about your "wild west ideal" on a corner or under that article, please. I even posted a link to it.
By the way privately funded college is an excellent example of what I was *actually* talking about. Better pay, mostly better teachers, better facilities/books, kids with a better education. It's not a "OMFG SOCIETYYYY" argument all the time. If you don't think there is a significant (and better) difference between the average college professor and your average public high school teacher then I don't even know...I really don't think it's too much to ask (or creating a "Utopian" anything) that teachers get a better and more competitive salary and some money to buy good better books for their students to read. =\

You're right, you didn't try and convert me, but my main intention wasn't to convert people but rather solidify my point. I like to have these political discussions with people because I am curious about what other people believe and why, and I also like to see how they defend those beliefs. I love debate, I'm not gonna lie, that's kinda what I was going for, I just got ahead myself and didn't even think as to if it was something alright with you, and for that I apologize, I do. That was foolhardy of me and I shall do what I should have done and ask if you would like to have a discussion about it and if so how would you like to have that discussion? Again, I apologize, and I hope you will forgive me.
