Description Ooh, that's some powerful stuff right there.

These two really don't seem to like each other much. A few of you may remember this: [link] I guess they have some bad blood between them. This time around, the lioness on the left just wanted to come over and lie down with the one on the right. Well, needless to say, that didn't work out. The lioness on the right ended up jumping to her feet and swatting the other one right in the head.

the one on the right is a young male, one can see the long mane at the neck.

I hate to correct you, but they're both females. I know this, firstly, because I know for a fact that the zoo keepers never let the males and females out at the same time. And secondly... well, to be blunt, when she was lying down I saw that she didn't have any male parts. It may look like the beginnings of a mane, but alas, it isn't. Thanks for the comment.

oh really? I am surprised to hear that! Because the fur is so long on her neck. I didn't know that females can have so long fur thank you to inform me. I am sorry that I was wrong but of course I believe you.

It's not a problem. I actually remember thinking to myself when taking this picture that it did look almost like a male. Honestly, I didn't realize that females could have such long fur either. If I hadn't been there, I would have thought the same as you. But thank you for the feedback. I do appreciate it.

Why do the cats you photograph act just like mine? My big orange tabby does this to our little Holstein-spotted girl if she gets too close. And she cringes just like that too. Great shot, man.

I guess in a lot of ways, the big cats are exactly that: just big versions of the domestic varieties. Both would attack a person in the blink of an eye (if sufficiently provoked). The only difference is, you aren't going to be walking away if a lion attacks you. Know what I mean?

Yeah. I've got a cat who doesn't take a whole lot of provocation to bite. He has a crappy personality.

I like hearing the stories behind pictures too. It adds a whole new layer to what's there.

You're right about that. She had been sitting by herself, looking miserable, before she went over and tried to get some company. After being summarily rejected, she went back and continued looking miserable.

Interesting. Silly kitties. Love the picture.

Interestingly enough, the male is never out when they are. I think the keepers purposely keep them separated, though for what reason, I can't say... Maybe you're right, and that's exactly why he's never out with them: they fight over him.

Huh, that's weird. Silly females, fightin' over a male... *coughs and looks around for sneaky womens trying to steal her guy*
