cillian's eyes are my favorite pair of eyes ever.
i was super pleased with this until the moment i finished it.
i think it's because i've stared at it for so long while i was drawing it. it's made me think it looks weird.
hopefully you like it though!

4x10 bristol vellum
staedtler mars lumograph H, HB, 2B, 3B, 4B
white charcoal
kneadable, sharpened eraser
paper towel, q-tips

His eyes are so hypnotic that they were the reason why he was cast as two sociopaths in one year. Don't believe me? Wes Craven said his eyes were the reason why he cast him as Jackson Rippner in Red Eye, and Chris Nolan said that not only was his performance great, but his eyes were so fascinating that he had to find reasons for his character, Jonathan Crane, to remove his glasses. It makes me giddy just thinking about it.

How do you make drawings like this?!
I have some black charcoal at my house, but that's it....

just layers and layers of graphite! have to make sure to keep the highlights from getting too dark though, you always want the base of your paper to be the brightest highlights so you can get maximum contrast!
charcoal is so messy! i always dread working with it, but is actually a lot quicker to work with

So do you just draw it with pencil? I've tried to do that, but it gets all smeary.

oh god, if you have trouble with the pencil doing that then don't touch the charcoal for a while lol. 10x worse.
just try and draw from left to right if you're right handed or the opposite if you're a lefty. also use a kneadable eraser to clean up the paper. i always try and keep my paper as clean as possible, that way it doesn't build up in to anything i won't be able to erase later.
