Description Now if I only had some sunlight. It had been overcast now for so many days. Looks better from a side angle too.

You have a lucky horseshoe when it comes to photography.
I am not sure how long you waited, or how many times you attempted to take this shot, but the feeling captured of the moment before impact is spectacular. Great timing, steady hand, and camera setting knowledge

Thank you. This took literally days and weeks to get. I minor obsession of mine for a while. The thing that made this possible is the reliability of the birds to dive for the fish, and the fact the fish tended to school in a certain area. So I set the camera on a tripod, but with the adjustment screws somewhat loose, so I could swivel the camera a little if needed, but still tight enough to dampen my spazziness when I needed to follow the bird and hit the shutter. I did manual focus on the area that was looking like where the majority of the birds were striking. Then it was a matter of waiting and watching until a bird dived and trying to time my reaction to get the shot. I had hundreds of shots of the bird not in frame, not in focus, under the water, mostly under the water, etc. etc.

I happy that you enjoy this shot.

perhaps if you cropped it tight, and made the pic vertical, it's be so much more dramatic! (just a suggestion...)

Good idea. It does need something.

I'm happy to get this shot finally, but it some how is missing that certain "grab you" quality. I'll let you know how it goes.

personally, I think more sun would have made darker shadows and the details would have been lost. Your timing is awesome on this.

You may be right about the shadows. I actually prefer photographing people in indirect light because it gives such an even and soft glow.
Hours of sitting out there is starting to pay off. So many misses though.

National Geographic photographers spend weeks and thousands of frames to create one story. Only the best make it into the magazine.

Wow, that's a great moment. The reflection is awesome.
What a shutter speed... I can't do this, damn.
I'm trying to catch up with the deviants I watch, takes so much time.

Thank you. They go so fast at this part of their dive, it really takes pushing the shutter speed. I would prefer an ISO 100 but just can't get the fast shutter with that.

Good luck getting caught up. I found it to be just impossible, so I try and not to get too far behind and call it good.

I always appreciate you stopping by.
