Night shot, single exposure (lasted 45 minutes), born from my idea of an invasion of alien stones, coming from deep space through a space-time vortex.

I have always been passionate about science fiction, and night photography allows me to fantasize and explore new possibilities

Shot taken near the Col Agnel (2.744 m), massif du Queyras, France. In darkness are easily distinguishable the Crête de la Taillante (3.197 m) and the Lac Foréant (2.618 m).

I knew already this spot. It's highly geometrical, both for what we can see: rounded valleys, sharp rocks, sloping ridges... and also for what actually happens but it's hidden from our eyes: I am referring to the perfect pointing toward the north, the Polaris, and to the consequent concentric trails generated by the light of the stars due to planet Earth's rotation to the east.

My camera remained perfectly steady on tripod taking this shot from 3:20 am to 4:05 am (so late in the night because before I had to wait until the moon was setting).
During this long exposure I made a few seconds of light painting with my little torch, just to instil some sort of enigmatic life to the stones in the foreground... I wanted them to communicate with the cosmos above, which symbolically represent the space-time vortex.

A lovely shot, and very ingenious to light the rocks in the front with some light painting which doesn't show all that Obvious in this shot.

Since you took this shot that late in the night, or early morning, I aassume the orange glow on the horizon is light pollution?

thanks

yes, it's just light pollution, captured only because of the long exposure
that light wasn't even remotely visible with the naked eye

Really cool it adds that little bit extra to the photo, when you wouldn't expect it when taking it
