Description "That's right, bow before me!"

Here she is, making her debut:  Blackfire!!!

Blackfire was the firstborn daughter of King Myand'r and Queen Luand'r of Tamaran; the first princess born in a long time.  As such, she was destined to succeed her parents as queen of Tamaran, but she was born with violet hair and purple eyes rather than the red hair and green eyes of all Tamaraneans.  On top of this, the high priest of X'hal warned her parents, that if she became queen, her reign would bring nothing but death and destruction: Tamaran would burn.  Blackfire was thus despised by her people, who considered her impure and unfit to rule.  All of her honors and birthrights were granted to her younger sister, Starfire, and later to their infant brother, Ryand'r.  Blackfire was consumed with rage and hatred, even though Starfire did her best to console her once Ryand'r was named heir to the throne.  Yet it was never enough for Blackfire, she wanted what she believed was her's by birthright.  When the Gordanians attacked Tamaran, Ryand'r was sent far away to another galaxy, while Starfire and Blackfire were sent to Okaara to train under the warlords there.  While Starfire eventually went off with Green Lanterns, Hal Jordan and Kilowog to stop the Anti-Monitor, Blackfire remained on Okaara to complete her training, but she was expelled for over aggressiveness and recklessness.

Her pride wounded, she decided to make a secret treaty with the Gordanians: Once Starfire returned, Blackfire allowed the Gordanians to take her younger sister as a hostage in exchange for peace.  Yet her actions resulted in that her parents died of grief.  Blackfire was heartbroken, but after becoming temporary ruler of Tamaran by birthright, she proved to be a ruthless tyrant, and was quickly overthrown in favor of Galfore, Knorfka to the Royal Family.  Blackfire soon began plotting vengeance against Starfire, and thus became an enemy of the team she indirectly helped create:  The Teen Titans.

For Blackfire's look, at first I was going for something that was reminiscent of her look in the comics, but then I saw a piece right here on DeviantArt and I was inspired to use that for Blackfire's clothes.  What she's wearing is essentially what Starfire wore in Flashpoint, but without the crown.  The spikes on her arms, and the jewel on her choker are reminiscent of Blackfire's original appearance in the comics.  I kept her purple hair and violet eyes from the cartoon as homage to her deformity in the comics.  Upon the marriage of Starfire and Nightwing, Blackfire became Dick Grayson's sister in-law, and thus the biological aunt of Mar'i and Jacob Grayson.  While she remains mostly villainous, there are times where she will put aside her hatred and help her family in times of need, as well as the Batman Family.

Disclaimer:  Blackfire belongs to DC Comics, Marv Wolfman and George Perez.

I like the tragic twist you gave to Blackfire. Having her be hated based on some prophecy.

But I wonder though, what if the prophecy was never made and Blackfire wasn't hated? Would she become a hero?

That’s an interesting possibility. She may indeed become a heroine if the prophecy never came about. Though Starfire would’ve still been captured and escaped to Earth and enjoyed life with the Titans.

Perhaps the two sisters would’ve been closer. It still must be said that this take on Blackfire does try and repair things with Starfire once she hears that her sister and Nightwing got married and had kids. So she did become an anti-hero, as one of the Outlaws. Also, she has the hots for Jason Todd.

In this canon, yes he does. I figured that Blackfire’s personality would align with his own, and I paired them in the style of Tamaranean princesses falling in love with most of the Robins.

Interesting. How exactly did Blackfire and Jason hit it off?

Did Jason rescue Blackfire ala Damsel in Distress Style?

Well they first met when Blackfire was spending time in Belle Reve Penitentiary. She overheard from Harley Quinn, who was transferred out of Arkham for a full-time position on the Suicide Squad, how Starfire was married to Nightwing, and had two children. When she heard that, Blackfire realized that for all the abuse she made her sister go through, Starfire was able to get married and start a family. All that envy and jealousy that drove her to such cruelty gave way to regret and sorrow, as she believed nobody would be able to succeed her.

One day, it became way too much for Blackfire, and she had an emotional breakdown. Despite her cruelty, she was still Starfire’s family. She began begging X’hal that her sister would forgive her for all the horrible things she did in the past. Yet she had no idea that Starfire was listening in the whole time. She had arrived with Nightwing and Jason, so the latter could recruit her for his team: The Outlaws.

Blackfire knew she had to do this right, so she agreed to the terms set up for her, for a joint mission with the Suicide Squad. At first, she believed Jason was a bit prudish, but after she got to know him, and after he ended up saving her life on the mission, they ended up falling head over heels, to the point where even she took after Starfire, in that she affectionately calls Jason as “Robin”.

Thanks! I’m glad you enjoy it! I figured it was time for Blackfire to make her appearance in the gallery as a villain and sometime antiheroine. My take on her is deeply in love with Jason Todd, by the way.

A perfect look for her (sexy, yet commanding).

If "mostly villainous" means that she's mellowed out a bit over the years, then there is one character who could relate to her, and who she could confide in; that character being Laira Omoto (specifically, Laira after she became a Red Lantern). Just like Kom, Laira was inline for the throne of her world, Jayd, but was disowned by her family when she was chosen to become a Green Lantern. Similar to Kom, who was expelled from Okaara, Laira was expelled from the Green Lantern Corp because of her aggressiveness, and just like how Kom tried to get back at those whom she believed had wronged her, Laira became a Red Lantern and tried to do the same. The two of them could even be involved with each other.

Here's the description of her character.   comicvine.gamespot.com/laira/4…

And if you choose to add her, there's a pic that you could use as inspiration for what her outfit could look like, here.  Led Lantern Laira

Thanks!! I’m glad you like Blackfire’s look! I was also inspired by that moment in episode 2 of Teen Titans where she borrowed some of Starfire’s clothes.

I’m definitely thinking of adding Laria, but I’m not sure if I should make her either a Green Lantern or a Red Lantern. She and Blackfire would definitely get along though! However, since she was straight in the comics, and following tradition of Tamaranean princesses falling in love with Robins, I had the crazy idea of pairing Blackfire with Jason Todd, given he’s the opposite of Dick Grayson but gets along with him, and he kills his enemies with firearms rather than knocking them out, and he definitely can be a bit villainous at times. Also, given his personality for being a badass, I could see Blackfire probably attracted to that. I’m not totally sure I’m going through with it though.

When I think about it, Kom and Jason being the titular "antihero couple" does sound better. They would work well off of each other, considering their mindsets.

As for Laira, she could be a Red Lantern, and that could be worked as a backstory for her. Her family disowning her could have been political; her planet's society is somewhat Xenophobic, and Laira could have had conflicting views about that. She could have pushed for interaction with other planets, but since her people were opposed to that, her family would have had to disown her, as to maintain their rule over Jayd (basically, cut the loose end to preserve the family prestige). This is what could have driven her rage so far as to attract a Red Lantern ring, and the ring's influence over her could have driven her into a rampage.

As for why she'd end up, and stay on Earth; there could be two people responsible for that. The first is Kyle Rayner. Since Kilowog is the one training your version of Kyle, that would mean that he would take Kyle out into deep space in order to teach him how Green Lanterns help as many planets as they can. This is how they could encounter Laira; receiving destress calls from Jayd. When they combat Laira, she could have an upper hand, since the Red Lantern ring is slightly more powerful then the Green Lantern ring, and she had received extensive combat training growing up. Kyle could have recommended that they (he and Kilowog) head back to Earth, so that Earth's heroes could provide all the extra muscle they would need to subdue Laira. Also, the "battle" that you said Kyle proved himself in, could be the battle against Laira, once they lured her to Earth.

The second person, could be Jennifer-Lynn Hayden/Jade. She could be the one who actually stops Laira, and an aspect of her character that's been forgotten by most could be how she does it. Back when Jen first appeared, she had her natural Green Lantern powers, but because they came from the mystic force she was one with; the Starheart; there was another power she had. She had partial Mind Control powers, but they were magical as opposed to being telepathic. Since there is some mystical elements to all the different colored Lantern rings, Jennifer could sense the red ring influencing Laira, and that deep down, Laira was traumatized by what the ring was making her do, and that she wanted the whole conflict to end. Once Kyle, and the other contain Laira, Jennifer could explain what was truly happening, and use her abilities to sever the red ring's control over Laira (something that couldn't be achieved with traditional telepathy from people like M'gann M'orzz, or J'onn J'onzz).

Once freed from the ring's control, Laira could be very distraught over what had happened. Once everything is explained, Kilowog could offer to take the ring, so it wouldn't be a burden to her, but Laira could decide to keep it. She could do this as a means of poetic justice; making amends for the damage she caused, with the very thing that made her cause it (sort of like the character Razor, from Green Lantern the Animated Series). Also, Jennifer could choose to take Laira in, since Laira wouldn't have anywhere to go (she ceratinly wouldn't be able to return home). Laira could join the Outsiders, and could even develop a relationship with Jennifer.

I know, right? Besides, Blackfire being on the Outlaws makes more sense in my opinion. I imagine Jason and Blackfire could relate in that they both desire revenge for the wrong reasons: Blackfire for her people turning against her, and Jason so as to get back at Joker for killing him. So they’d both find solace with each other, and since they have no qualms about killing their enemies. Plus Blackfire could have a change of heart when Jason explains about how he and Dick are like brothers, and how he wished he could’ve had friends like the Titans.

I definitely like Laira’s backstory in that sense! And I definitely think Kyle would be able to fight against her to prove himself both to Flash (Wally West) and Troia that he’s worthy Titan material. Though by the time my take on Kyle becomes a Green Lantern, Jade and the Outsiders are already incorporated into the Titans. So Laira could be given a chance to redeem herself with the Teen Titans, as Wally and Donna remembered how Terra’s rage and anger against Deathstroke combined with her inability to control her powers led to her eventual death, and they did not want that to happen again.

Laira redeeming herself with the Titans sounds good, though she'd probably be Jennifer's personal student; not like the regular students, since she's practically the same age as the staff of the Academy. When some of the other staff find out that she, and Jen have become involved with each other, they could tease about the whole "student/teacher relationship" thing. Considering what Jennifer would do for her, Laira could also be fiercely loyal to Jen from then on (like how Sonia is loyal to Grant for all that he did for her).

Robin250 In reply to 1987man [2017-11-18 17:42:50 +0000 UTC]

That would work! Though another thing I was thinking would be that since the whole student/teacher thing would be something they’d tease about, maybe she and Jade could do something on more of an education for her that is more college level, given she’s the same age as much of the staff. Or alternatively, we’d be able to make her an intern or staff in training. Given she’s also royalty, and an alien on a different world, trying to adapt to a new culture, Starfire and Supergirl may help her out, as they understand Laira’s situation and would want to help her adjust.

Now, back to Blackfire, I was thinking she’d turn from villain to antihero when, in one last fight with her sister, Starfire shows a ferocity and determination that Blackfire’s never seen in her before. This would be because since Starfire’s a mother, she’d fight harder than ever to protect her children.

That's perfect. Laira could receive both college level education, and could intern as a in-training staff member. Kori and Kara would be perfect guides on how to adapt to Earth culture.

As for Kom's move from villain to antihero being motivated by the fact that her sister is now a mother; it works out really well. It shows that she's not a completely evil person (like the Joker, or Trigon).

Awesome!! I have a feeling that as part of her recovery, Laira could even want to share her planet’s culture and customs, much like Star does. Though I may need some help in knowing what Jayd’s culture and customs are like. If all else fails though, we could come up with some suggestions as well.

Thanks! I was kind of inspired by an instance in R.E.B.E.L.S., when Blackfire was seen as semi-reformed and willing to put aside her hatred to work with Starfire in stopping Starro the Conqueror, along with a scene from Red Hood and the Outlaws where they make up. Though I also have some ideas from a few anime I’ve watched. One such being that Blackfire realizes that while she’s been fixated on revenge that Star has been able to live a normal life and have children. This revelation that she has no successors of her own being what causes Blackfire to have an emotional breakdown and begging Starfire to forgive her for all the horrible things she’s done.

Laira sharing her culture is good. As for her people's culture, most of what I know of it comes from the Green Lantern comics that her character was introduced in back in the early 90's. Jayd was warrior like, with most people belonging to certain clans. Laira's family was part of the clan know as the "Golden Dragon". Her people are very honor driven too.

Kom's story is a complicated one, but that's because most of what happens in her life centers around family.

On an unrelated note, I remembered a character from the late 90's Young Justice comics who could be part of the Academy. That character being Anita Fite/Empress. I will say that Anita had a very goofy looking outfit in the comics, (as you can see here  nonwhitesuperhero-blog.tumblr.… ) so if you do decide to add her, you could use the way she was depicted in Young Justice issues 44, and 45 (which was an alternate reality version of the characters).

Here's a link to what Anita looked like in those issues (specifically issue 44, page 21).  readcomiconline.to/Comic/Young…

Ah! That’s actually pretty cool! So I’m a sense, Jayd’s culture and society are kind of similar to Medieval Japan, since the planet is ruled by many different clans and the Jaydian people are very honor driven as well. Also, as to an earlier suggestion, why not have Kyle and Jade rescue Laira together? Jade could find out the Ring is what is traumatizing Laira and Kyle would be the one who snaps her free from its control.

Oh and definitely, I agree with you on Blackfire’s story. It is difficult since it involves her family, but it could be interesting seeing her trying to be a good older sister and aunt for a change. Though when she and Jason are alone, she could make more advances towards him once they establish a relationship.

I’m definitely planning to add Empress to the Titans Academy roster. After all, we do have Secret and Arrowette among the students as well, so it only seems fair to add her as well.

Medieval Japan is the perfect example to compare Jayd's culture to. Also, having both Kyle and Jennifer rescue Laira is perfect. I still feel that Jen could be the one to free Laira (she she's the one with the Starheart magic). During the battle, Kyle could be the one who's finally able to restrain Laira, as so Jen can do her stuff.

With Anita being added, that means the four original Young Justice girls (Cissie, Cassie, Greta, and Anita) will be part of the Academy. Like I said earlier, Anita's outfit could be similar to the more revealing one she wore in issue 44, since it would be closer to what her ancestors would have worn for their Voodoo ceremonies (Voodoo magic is kinda her main thing), as opposed to that goofy looking armored bodysuit. She could even be romantically involved with Slobo; the clone of the famous bounty hunter, Lobo. Slobo kind of had a thing for Anita back in the Young Justice comics, and they even went on a formal date in one issue, but they never officially had a relationship though.

Robin250 In reply to 1987man [2017-11-19 01:43:44 +0000 UTC]

I figured as such. I read in Laira’s bio in Green Lantern Emerald Knights that her father committed ritual suicide, much like Sonia’s committed seppuku. And that’s perfect to have Jade free Laira, so that way she and Kyle could help together. Since I remember her counterpart as a Green Lantern in Emerald Knights, I think maybe I’ll have her be a Green Lantern again, since she was one for most of her life, and that’s how the film and Injustice comics portrayed her.

Oh definitely! And yes, I was thinking the same for Empress’ costume, albeit with a bit more on the Afro-Caribbean influences, since her main thing is voodoo magic. Also, we may as well make her Raven’s mentee, given her affinity to magic. As for the romance with Slobo, we could do that. Though for some reason, I always thought Slobo was Lobo but gone through a similar process that Ray Palmer went through when he was a Titan.
