Thanks! I wanted to have her appear as a figure who really understands the geopolitical and socioeconomic landscape of Africa. As for Na-Nefru Sekhet? Well, she’s my take on an Amazon who was introduced recently in the Wonder Woman comics, an Amazon named Astarte who was Diana’s aunt and first mentor. She was the daughter of Alcippe, an Amazon queen who also went by the name of Antiope and was said to have founded Bana-Mighdall in the recent comics. I decided to change her name to Na-Nefru Sekhet, because in Ancient Egypt, the Phoenician goddess Astarte was associated with Sekhmet: the Egyptian goddess of war with the head of a lioness, as well as with Hathor: the Egyptian goddess of love and fertility with the head of a cow.

That probably could work out with Na-Nefru Sekhet being a demigoddess, but perhaps her father could be Anubis: the Ancient Egyptian god of mummification with the head of an African golden wolf, and the Egyptian equivalent of Hermes, in that they both prepare the dead for their journey into the afterlife. As for the outfit, it would work perfectly for Na-Nefru Sekhet.

That could do it, though I brought up Thoth, mainly because Imhotep, one of the greatest architects in Ancient Egypt, was said to be his son. Two other candidates I had in mind are also Ptah, the god of craftsmen, and Sobek, the fertility god with the head of a crocodile.

That settles it! Sobek it is! He came to mind when I was doing research on the rites conducted in veneration towards him at his temple in Crocodilopolis, modern day Faiyum. The sacred crocodile that resided in the temple, Petsuchos, was said to have been Sobek’s son. Given that Bana-Mighdall spans from the Nile valley to the Red Sea, the Amazons would be extremely familiar with crocodiles, and consider them as sacred as the Egyptians did.
