Thank you! I figured it was good to have her up in the gallery after what happened to my laptop. I wanted to rework both Magala and Ariadne, given my plans for Circe. I also am planning on having her be in a relationship with Derinoe, an Amazon introduced in the New 52 who was noted for her severe hatred of men and created Donna Troy in an attempt to start a coup against Diana. I figured that Derinoe has potential, but her backstory could be reworked in that she would be one of those candidates for Pontifactrix who grew to like Magala, and ultimately saw that her plans for reform were exactly what was needed.

My thoughts exactly. The idea was that Derinoe was made a candidate for Pontifactrix based on her firebrand preachings against Communism, Fascism and religious extremism. Egnatia II saw that as a tool of great potential, as her preachings were in line with Hippolyta II’s stance on Communism as well. Derinoe thought she was going to be elected for certain, but that all changed when she met Magala. At first, Derinoe shared the same opinion as the other candidates, that Magala would shake things up and make them actually perform their sacred duties, and Derinoe would have acted as the eyes and ears for her peers, and sabotage Magala’s chances to shine, but as they ended up spending time together, and they both really got to know each other better, Derinoe realized that her peers were wrong, and that actually performing her sacred duties was actually pretty fun, and that was where the attraction between the two of them also began. Hence, it was also why one of Magala’s edicts was to do away with the Pontifactrix being celibate, in part so that it would allow her and Derinoe to get married.

Though if she is Dionysus' wife... what happened to Ariadne?

No, no, no. Ariadne is Dionysus’ wife. Magala will be married to Derinoe, another candidate for Pontifactrix Maxima who ended up falling in love with Magala.

It’s cool. I wanted to have my take of Ariadne fall more in line with Greek mythology.
After Theseus killed the Minotaur, Ariadne fled with him and the freed Athenian captives, given her hand in the Minotaur’s demise. Yet when they stopped to resupply on the island of Naxos, Theseus knew that it was a matter of time before Minos sent ships after him. As such, he and his countrymen set sail to Athens during the night, essentially abandoning Ariadne as she slept. When she woke up, Ariadne wanted revenge against Theseus for essentially using her against her family. However, Dionysus saw her and was instantly smitten by her beauty. So, he went down and comforted Ariadne, listening to her story and letting her cry into his shoulder. As soon as she realized who she was with, and when Dionysus proposed to her, she instantly said yes, since she knew he’d treat her even better than Theseus did, and that she would become a goddess. This could be interpreted as how the Athenians looked down upon women in contrast to the Minoans.

Neither is Jason for abandoning both Hypsipyle and Medea. This is why the Amazons don’t really like those two Greek heroes, but they are definitely fond of heroes like Perseus, and especially Hercules given their history with him during the Bronze Age.

Well, mainly it’s because he wasn’t very arrogant, unlike most other Greek heroes, and he didn’t incur the wrath of the Gods. Plus he also rescued Andromeda from the Cetus and founded the city of Mycenae.

I know, but I do like how his main motivation in the myths was to protect his mom.

So would Andromeda in your universe be dark-skinned, since she's a princess of Aethiopia (also known as Ethiopia)?

Nice! Andromeda might honestly be one of the most white-washed characters that I can think of.

That she has, and I think that it will make sense to represent her as being African, given that the Greeks used the term “Ethiopia” to refer to the entire region of Africa south of Egypt.

Just wondering, what are your thoughts on Ray Harryhausen's Clash of the Titans?

My apologies for that. I mean, I think it’s a good attempt to tell the tale of Perseus, but it’s also a huge inaccurate telling of the tale. I mean Calibos, the quest being about saving Andromeda, and especially Bubo. That mechanical owl just made me laugh.
Yet in seriousness, the other major glaring elephant in the room with that film is the Kraken. The Kraken is more associated with Norse mythology than Greek. The original creature in the myth of Perseus was properly named the Cetus, or Ketos, which means “huge fish” or “sea monster” in Ancient Greek. In fact, the Cetus has survived into the modern day as well. Its name is now applied to the Cetaceans, the whales and dolphins.

True. Fun fact, the actor who played Perseus in the film also voiced him in God of War II.

Ah yes, I recall! Though in the original myth, Medusa was also asleep when Perseus cut off her head. Then again, I suppose it wouldn’t have made for good box office sales if they showed that in the film, or even chose to be a completely accurate retelling of the myth.
On the subject of the remake, I have plans for one of the characters who debuted in that awful remake, Io. In the myths, she was one of Zeus’ lovers who was famously turned into a white cow to fool Hera, and then ran in that form while being chased by a gadfly all the way to Egypt, where she was returned to her human form and venerated as a goddess. So, it got me thinking: what if Io is the same as the Egyptian goddess Isis? Huh?

That is true. It’s why I am a fan of the Hercules movie that stared Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson, as it the characters’ backstories for that movie seemed more plausible. Plus, I loved the fact that the “centaurs” that Rhesus was said to have were really just warriors on horseback.
I know, right? It also makes sense given that the Greek god of silence, Harpocrates, is not only the son of Io and Zeus, but the deity’s name was given by the Greeks to the Egyptian god, Horus. Therefore, my takes on Io and Isis will be one and the same, and that Zeus was Horus’ father all along.

Well, here’s the thing - Themyscira had only been partially converted. Islam is the religion of merchants and scholars, people with socioeconomic and cultural ties to West Africa, but the majority of the Amazons still practice Hellenism. Furthermore, many tenants of Islamic law are incompatible with Amazon society, so most Muslims ignore them.

Precisely. And I’m glad you brought Islam in East Asia, as one variation of Islam came to Themyscira from China, but the more popular variations came from the Mali Empire, which I’ll get into more detail with for the pic of my next Amazon, Yasmin Keita, AKA Farariya.
