"Yeah...for them, that is."

While the glory days of Classical antiquity have long since passed into the pages of history, Wonder Woman and Aquaman stand as living reminders of its legacy and influence. When Arthur Curry first became aware of his true heritage, he ended up meeting his ancient ancestor, Poseidon: the God of the Seas, who reassured him and eased him of his fears. Shortly after accepting his destiny and after he and his crush, Mera, were set upon by Trenchers in an assassination attempt led by his half-brother, Orm and Black Manta, he was aided by the recently formed Justice League, among whose members included his cousin, Princess Diana of Themyscira, AKA Wonder Woman.

As Diana was the daughter of Zeus: King of the Olympian Gods, she was also the niece of Poseidon, and oft invoked his name to protect her ship while on seafaring voyages, such as when she and Steve Trevor sailed to America from Themyscira. As a little girl, Diana and her sisters all learned from their mothers, Hippolyta II and Philippis, about the tragedy that befell Atlantis during the Bronze Age, but assumed it was only just a myth, until the Justice League took on an investigation of a missing U.S. naval submarine in the Eastern Mediterranean, and revealed that Atlantis was very much real. That was how she was aware of the Attalid Dynasty's descent from Poseidon, and thus the great kings and queens of Atlantis were her cousins - for they too shared the blood of the Gods. So, when Diana and Arthur first met, she revealed the truth to both him and Mera, and proposed an alliance between Themyscira and Atlantis - a proposition that became reality following Ocean Master and Black Manta's defeat at the Battle of Metropolis, and Arthur and Mera being crowned the new rulers of Atlantis. Since then, and once Arthur was well into his role as Aquaman, he and Diana became close, both as cousins and as friends, and Diana even helped him and Mera implement a series of reforms that brought Atlantis out of the Bronze Age and on par with Themyscira in terms of economics, military, governance and foreign policy. Of course, their status in the Justice League means that any criminals who face them together are in for quite the nasty surprise.

Phew! This pic I meant to do earlier, but I was so caught up in my cybersecurity classes, that I never got round to it till now. I wanted to draw this pic because 2021 not only marks Wonder Woman's 80th anniversary, but also Aquaman's 80th anniversary, and I wanted to do a piece that celebrated both of these esteemed superheroes. Also, you may have noticed that Diana and Arthur have some revisions to their armor. Both have more pteruges on their armors, and Diana's plackard is articulated around her waist. I made this revision so as to make it easier on her when she's bending over or sitting down, so that the plackard doesn't push into her belly.

Since they're both on the Justice League, that is where Diana and Arthur can both just relax and be themselves, without having to deal with the burdens of their personal lives. It has been noted that they are competitive when fighting, sometimes making bets on how many enemies they can beat individually, with the added incentive that the loser buys drinks later on. And with their proteges' positions in the Teen Titans, that familial bond they share has only grown stronger.
