Well, that was the end. I can’t say I was there from day 1 but quit early, like episode 5 maybe I started watching but remember for like 5-6 years, I used to try to come up with small moments to look forward too, just to motivate myself to keep on surviving, one day at a time before finding some real genuine happiness and reason to live and all that and to get home and watch the new episode of The Flash was really a highlight of the week. And early Flash was absolutely my favorite show, Thawne had gravitas, Zoom was something from your greatest nightmare, Flashpoint (even if the event itself was a little too short) had real consequences, Tinkerer was a piece of fresh air and a unique big bad that challenged Barry in another way than just having to become faster with his legs.
I usually like to read the comics or know something about a character before watching their show or movie but I wasn’t that big of a fan of The Flash before I started watching this show and he quickly became a favorite as he used his brains, creative fake science and heart to save the day. And going back to “surviving day by day”, watching this show in a period where I tried to reinvent myself and figure out who I want myself to be, Barry Allen has been a big inspiration. While some characters use scare tactics or brute force to fix the problem, Barry Allen’s number one superpower has been his smile, optimism and forgiveness and that he relies more on emotional speeches to connect to the villain and save the day, and use his superhuman speed to punch the bad guy before he can blink comes second. And if that’s not what a superhero should be, I don’t know what is. I’m happy I got to learn about this character and thanks to Grant Gustin and the rest of team Flash for introducing me to this amazing and sunny part of the DC Universe.
