Description
Scorpion, AKA Hanzo Hasashi, has been both a hero and a villain throughout the franchise. He was killed alongside his family and his clan, the Shirai Ryu, but returned as a Revenant/Specter. He was later restored as a human, allowing him to redeem himself and join the heroes, though he was able to switch into his Specter form at will while retaining his mind. Of course, he's more of an anti-hero due to his violent and aggressive nature, but, in any case, he's more heroic than he was before. For a time, he was an enemy of the Lin Kuei and Sub-Zero, but the two eventually became brothers-in-arms. Hanzo is able to manipulate flames and has increased speed and strength. His spear can be used to harpoon opponents and bring them in for close-range attacks. He can also take on a skeletal form to channel his fire attacks, especially in the form of fire breath. While the present Hanzo was killed by D'Vorah, his past Revenant self, who, up until that point was on Kronika's side, promised his present self that he would avenge him and aided the heroes.

For a time, it was believed that Scorpion’s spear shot out from the palm of his hand, with the poor quality of the older games making it appear this way. In the ‘95 movie (as well as its less famous sequel), the spear was a living creature that came out of his hand (or hands) and homed in on opponents, adding to the idea. In recent years, though, it’s been proven to simply be a kunai attached to a rope or chain (depending on the media). It’s on his belt when not in use, and the way he throws it makes it look as though it’s shooting out of his wrist. It can even be customized in MK11.
