Hiro turned in his chair at the sound of a light knocking on the wall of his lab. He smiled to see his great, life-long friend, (Name), standing in the door way. "Hey, (Name)."

"Hi, Hiro!" (Name) chirped. She entered the garage, clasping her hand on Hiro's shoulder, patting it roughly. "Ready to go? Your brother is waiting for you."

Hiro got up from his chair, having (Name)'s hand fall back to her side. He picked up his latest, and most likely his smallest, invention off of his desk, placing it in his pocket. He nodded. "Ready."

(Name) walked out with him, all the way to where Tadashi was waiting for Hiro on his scooter. Once more, she roughly patted his shoulder. "See you at the convention. Good luck with those micro...micro..."

"Microbots?"

"I knew that," (Name) said behind a sheepish smile. "Just had a brain fart...you're going to be great!" She left, heading towards her turbo hoverboard and down the sidewalks of San Frantokyo like a super charged bullet.

Hiro turned towards his brother, his eyebrows furrowing. "Why are you looking so smug?"

Tadashi only laughed. "Just get on. I’ll tell you on the way."

The two made their way to the Convention Center, meeting back up with their aunt and friends upon arrival. With the help of (Name), the brothers unloaded the blue trash bins that contained Hiro's inventions and wheeled them into his presenting area. Even though he didn't show it, or admit it, Hiro was nervous. This was his ticket into Nerd School, the nickname for the Institute of Technology, and if he couldn't get in...what was he supposed to do?

"Hiro?" He heard (Name)'s voice through his internal panic after the intercom announced that his presentation was next.

"Yeah?"

She handed him his neurotransmitter headband. She smiled. "Break a leg. They're gonna love it." She playfully, and in a way encouragingly, pushed him up the steps that led to the stage. She waved at him when he looked back, giving him a thumbs up as she joined the rest of Hiro's support group.

But the joy of Hiro's acceptance to the college after his amazing presentation didn't last long. The inseparable trio, as Hiro and Tadashi's aunt would call them, went out to talk over what Hiro could do for the world, how proud Tadashi and (Name) were of him.

That's when the alarm went off and they saw the building where the convention was held was on fire. They rushed the scene, asking the escapees of the fire if they were okay.

One of them told Tadashi, "Professor Callaghan is still in there!"

Hiro and (Name)'s hearts nearly stopped when Tadashi bolted for the flaming building. Hiro grabbed his brother's arm, making him stop. "What are you doing?! It's too dangerous!"

Tadashi looked straight into his brother's eyes. "I need--I have to help." He pulled out if Hiro's grip, heading back for the building, entering it with no hesitation.

(Name) ran after him, almost entering through the doors herself. "Tadashi, wait—!”

She and Hiro got thrown back my the blast from the explosion of the building. Hiro landed on his side, hard on the sidewalk. His vision blurred, his ears ringing. He slowly picked himself off of the ground, still shaken. He looked up and gasped at the sight before him. "T...Tadashi...? Tadashi?!" In the corner of his eye, he saw (Name) sprawled out on the staircase on her stomach, near the railing.

Through his horrified trance, Hiro stumbled his way to her. It felt like ice pierced through his veins. Her back seemed to take an abnormal dip and her head was bleeding onto the ground. Her breath was shallow and quick.

Hiro placed his hand on her upper back. "(Name)? (Name)?! Are you okay?!" He yelled over the top of his lungs, "Help! Somebody help!"

You left the hospital about a week ago. When you woke up about a couple weeks ago, you were disoriented, your mind telling you that you shouldn't be here. You went to stand up and get out of the bed but you found that you couldn't move waist down...then you noticed all the machines that were attached to you.

The explosion put you into a coma, you found out. And since you were so close to the blast, you got the worst of the shock wave and it slammed you hard against a metal railing on your lower back, shattering it almost, leaving you to never be able to walk again. You used those two weeks for therapy and the doctors gave you the green light to go home, you just had to go back three days a week for more physical therapy.

You looked up to your mom, who was helping you get ready for the day. "Hey, Mom?"

She looked down, smiling at you. "Yes, sweetie?"

"Can I go see Hiro? I can get there myself."

"Are you sure you want to go all the way down there?" She asked you, her eyes clearly showing worry.

You nodded. "Yes, I am. I want to see how Hiro is doing..." You smiled at her. "Besides, it's just down the street. No hills. And I think you need a break from wheeling me everywhere."

Your mother thought for second before letting out a deep sigh. "Alright...but be careful, okay?"

You were already half way out the door, grabbing your purse from the rack by it. "Thanks, Mom!" You went down the newly built ramp that came out of your front door and down the sidewalk, eager to see your best friend again. You knew that he would be happy to see you too, it has been almost four months since you last saw, or spoke, to each other. You were so happy that the looks people gave you as you went down the sidewalk didn't faze you.

You stopped in front of the bakery/home where Hiro lived, seeing that the bakery hadn't opened yet. You could see his Aunt Cass in the window, working. You knocked on pane of glass, stifling a laugh when you saw her jump five feet into the air. She spun around to see you and a large grin went across her face. You waved at her.

Cass bolted for the door, it banging against the house-bakery. "(Name)!" She wrapped her arms around you squeezing you tight. "Oh my gosh, I haven't seen you in forever! Are you doing okay?"

"I'm fine, Ms. Hamada—"

"I've told you before, you can call me Aunt Cass, or Cass. Either one, whichever one you want! What are you doing here? Aw, what am I talking about?! I’m so excited that you’re here! Oh, wait!" Cass pulled away from you and went behind you, pushing you inside. "Hiro would be so happy to see you!" She set you by the counter. You watched her rush over to the staircase and yell, "Hiro! Get down here!" Cass hurried back to you, her smile still large. She reacted into the glass display case and presented you the platter of her sweets. "Donut?"

You took one, the pastry gone in a blink of an eye. "Thanks. I think I have some money in my purse..."

"No, no! It's free, dear. You know that! Friends of the family get free food--" Cass cut herself off to yell, "Hiro, hurry up!" She looked back to you and laughed nervously. "Excuse me for a moment..." Being the hyperactive person she was, she ran up the stairs leaving you alone. You laughed as you heard her voice yell, "Hiro, there's a friend of yours waiting to see you! Come down here!"

There was a short, quiet pause before you heard footsteps rapidly come down the stairs, seeing Cass turn and say, "Come on, come on, come on!"

"Aunt Cass, I told you, I'm bu..." Hiro came down after Cass, his eyes going past her and then seeing you. He stopped on the stairs, staring at you while Cass continued down to be by your side. "...sy..."

Cass gripped onto both of your shoulders, you couldn't see her but you could hear the smile in her voice, "Surprise! Thought it was going to be one of your buddies back at Institute of Technology, didn't you?" She went back up the stairs going past Hiro. "I'll leave you two to catch up!" She disappeared from your view.

Hiro slowly came down the steps, his eyes still on you. "(N...Name)...?" He inched closer to you, as if he were hesitant.

"Hi, Hiro..." you greeted in a quiet voice. A bit louder, you asked him, "It's been awhile, huh?" You gasped in surprise when you suddenly felt arms go around you tightly. You glanced up, your face heating up to see that it was none other than Hiro giving you the hug. "Hiro...?"

Hiro only held you tighter at the sound of your voice. "I missed you..."

You couldn't help but smile. You returned his hug. "I missed you too, bud." You pulled away from him, having him let you go as well. "How's it going?"

"I should be asking you that, (Name)." Hiro pulled up a chair sat across from you. "But...I'm doing well. Nerd School is fun, that's for sure. I build a lot of stuff...hang out with the others, things like that."

"That sounds like fun," you commented.

"What about you? Are you doing okay?"

"Yes, I am. It's hard to get around and do certain things now without some help but I bet that I can get used to it soon," you explained, some sadness in your voice as you did. You shook it away to ask him, "Don't you have school today?"

"Today's my day off," Hiro answered. Then his eyes lit up. "But I can still head for the lab. I just got an idea for my new project." He got up from his chair. "Wait here." He went up the stairs, finding yourself alone again. But it didn't last long. You raised an eyebrow to see Cass come after Hiro, her car keys in hand. He returned to you, gripping onto your wheelchair's handles. "Come on. We're going to the lab."

Hiro wheeled you into his lab at the school, setting you in front of the small window that shined the day's bright light into the lab. He smiled at you and went to the red box that sat on the floor. He pushed the button. You jerked in your wheelchair when the box opened and you heard an air pump go off as a white mass grew out from the box. It turned out to be a robot. Hiro guided the robot to you. "(Name), this is Baymax. Say hello, Baymax."

Baymax lifted up his arm and his hand made a small circular motion. "Hello! I am Baymax, your personal healthcare companion."

You wheeled up closer to Baymax, poking his stomach. "A nurse bot? That's a great invention!"

"Yeah...it's not mine though. All the credit goes to my brother," Hiro explained.

Your shoulders drooped, remembering what your mother told you about the accident. "Oh. Well...he did a great job thinking this up." You sent him a puzzled look. "Why are you showing me Baymax?"

Hiro only smiled. "Baymax, can you scan (Name) please?"

"Wait, scan? What do you mean by—?"

"Scanning complete." Baymax turned to Hiro. "There is a physical injury on her lower spinal cord which is severe enough to cause paralysis. It seems that the shards from her bones had pierced her nervous system, making it not able to work properly which is the cause of her paralysis."

"Thanks, Baymax, that's all I needed to know." Hiro sat down at his desk and grabbed a pencil and paper, scribbling on it.

"Hiro, what was that for?"

Hiro turned in his chair and sent a smile. He held up a drawing of what looked to be like a brace that was shaped like a spine. "We're gonna fix you."

Your eyes widened and you took the paper from his hands when he offered it to you. "What...what is this?"

Baymax's voice came from the right side of your head, making you jerk a little. "It seems to be a blueprint of a brace that can help you move you paralyzed area."

You gasped, looking up to Hiro. "R...Really?"

Hiro nodded, his smile becoming bigger. "Yep.” He came closer to you before kneeling down so he could get eyelevel with you. “Don’t worry, (Name). I’ll make you walk again. I promise.”

He yelped when you grabbed him and pulled him into a tight hug. “Oh, thank you, thank you, thank you, Hiro!” In your excitement, you kissed his cheek. But as soon as you did it, your eyes bugged out of your head and pulled away from Hiro quickly. You could feel your face burn as it turned cherry red. “Hi-Hiro…I’m so sorry…!”

To your surprise, Hiro chuckled lightly. “Tadashi told me you liked me.”

You’re face only became redder. “…Really?”

“Yeah.”

“…How long have you known?”

“The day of the accident…he told me while we were heading to the expo.”

“…Darn it, Tadashi!” You let out a long, stressed breath. “I feel like an idiot...” You looked up to the ceiling, complaining, “Why did you have to tell him?”

Hiro only smiled and hugged you again. Your heart nearly stopped when you felt him kiss your forehead. He pulled away from you and ruffled your hair. “It’s okay, (Name)…I…I like you too.” He wheeled you over to his desk. “Come on, let’s get to work. Baymax!”

“Yes?”

“I need the scan results of (Name). We need to know exactly where the paralysis occurs.” Hiro glanced over to you and gripped onto your hand lightly. “Ready to be able to walk again? Because when we finally do, I’m taking you for a walk through the Cherry Blossom Gardens…sounds like a good enough date, right?”

You smiled, nuzzling your face into the crook of Hiro’s neck, who had a giant growth spur over the years and now was as tall as you now. Your hands intertwined as you walked, yes, walked, through the gardens. He was able to invent the Spine and Nerve Enabler, a device that attaches itself on a person’s spine and embeds microscopic electric wires which attach to the damaged nerves that cause paralysis in the person and act as the nerves. It also injects a chemical to the spine where it can be able to heal the damaged area of the spine as well. These together gets rid of paralysis entirely, enabling it’s user to walk again.

“Thank you, Hiro…” you whispered.

He kissed your cheek. “Anything for you.”

Hiro only smiled and hugged you again. Your heart nearly stopped when you felt him kiss your forehead. He pulled away from you and ruffled your hair. “It’s okay, (Name)…I…I like you too.” He wheeled you over to his desk. “Come on, let’s get to work. Baymax!”

“I need the scan results of (Name). We need to know exactly where the paralysis occurs.” Hiro glanced over to you and gripped onto your hand lightly. “Ready to be able to walk again? Because when we finally do, I’m taking you for a walk through the Cherry Blossom Gardens…sounds like a good enough date, right?”

You smiled, nuzzling your face into the crook of Hiro’s neck, who had a giant growth spur over the years and now was as tall as you now. Your hands intertwined as you walked, yes, walked, through the gardens. He was able to invent the Spine and Nerve Enabler, a device that attaches itself on a person’s spine and embeds microscopic electric wires which attach to the damaged nerves that cause paralysis in the person and act as the nerves. It also injects a chemical to the spine where it can be able to heal the damaged area of the spine as well. These together gets rid of paralysis entirely, enabling it’s user to walk again.

“Thank you, Hiro…” you whispered.

He kissed your cheek. “Anything for you.”
