"C'mon, (Name)...I know you can do it." Steve was standing in front of (Name), giving her encouragement to form some sort of form of snow. She has been in this facility for two months now and not a day since they first met, there was no form of ice crystal. Even the ice and snow consuming the room and the hallway has melted. But no matter how hard (Name) tried, nothing happened. Fury was now starting to get a little impatient over her..."progress" under Rogers. So impatient, he's starting to consider more harsher terms to figure out her powers. This was Steve's last day to attempt to activate her powers.

(Name) sighed and looked down at her restraints. "It's no use, Steve...I can't do it..."

"Yes, you can," Steve assured her with a small smile. "You just need to concentrate. We both know that you have powers so they're here somewhere. You need to just...dig deeper."

"Dig deeper..." (Name) repeated quietly. She then nodded. "Okay." She closed her eyes and concentrated hard. But a little too hard. Slowly, her face turned red and veins erected from her skin. She was making a muffled groan that little kids make when they're trying to lift something too heavy.

Steve didn't like where this was going. "Okay, you can stop now." His eyes filled with concern when it appeared that she didn't hear him and continued her head-bursting concentration. "(Name), that's enough. You can stop now..." she didn't. Steve quickly approached her, even though that usually adds up to an explosion of ice and snow, and put his hands on her shoulders. "(Name), stop!"

At contact of Steve's hands, (Name)'s eyes snapped open and she gasped for air. She toppled into Steve's chest, not able to stay on her feet anymore due to her exhaustion. She was shaking like a leaf and gasping for air like a fish out of water.

Steve stumbled backwards at the sudden weight of (Name) on him but he was able to catch himself and her. "You okay?"

She slowly nodded and straightened up with Steve's help, since she was still shaking. Steve led her to a chair and help her sit down. "I'm okay, Steve. Honest."

"You're shaking more than an earthquake. You're not okay." Steve pulled out the other chair out of its boltings and sat next to (Name). As he watched her trying to catch her breath, he said, "I'm sorry, (Name). I pushed you too far. I should have recognized your limit point, not making you keep going."

(Name) shook her head. "No. Don't be sorry...I didn't listen to you so it was my fault, not yours." She leaned against her chair and crossed her arms, letting out a sigh. Her shaking stopped and her breath returned to normal. "I guess I don't have my powers anymore."

"I bet that's not true. You just...you just can't figure out how to use them. We know that you do have them, but you were scared or worked when it happened." It suddenly hit Steve. "Maybe they're triggered by emotion. You were scared when you used them. You were mad, you were worked up. But these were all negative and you didn't have any control over it until you made that wall of ice when the soldiers opened fire on you."

"So...if I want use my powers...I have to be mad--?"

"Oh, no, no, no. You don't have to be mad...I think we have enough of those." Steve sighed and told her, "(Name)...I can't lie to you. This is my last day in here if I can't find out how your powers work, Nick will take me out and replace me with someone else. And I got a feeling that whoever it is will treat you the way neither of us would like. So we have to find a way to get your powers working without anger. I don't want to leave you in someone else's hands." Steve motioned (Name) to come close. When she did, Steve took the steel clamp over her hands and wrists and pried it open, releasing her hands for the first time since she came here. "I think it'll be easier if had those off."

(Name) was rubbing her hands, trying to make them come back to life. "Won't you get in trouble for doing that?"

"Probably. And I bet any minute, they'll come down so we don't have a lot of time." Steve stood back up and offered his hand to (Name). She took it and he helped her up. "Besides, I trust you. You'll never hurt me."

(Name) smiled largely at Steve. She looked down at her hands and moved them slowly. She whirled her hands around each other. Her smile became larger when a lone snowflake came out of her hand. She held it out to Steve. "I did it!"

Steve couldn't help but return her smile. "That's great. See if you can do more."

(Name) nodded eagerly and went back to her snowflake. She clasped her hands over it and a blast of cold air came from her. When she opened it, a snowball was in her hand. She looked at Steve deviously.

Steve's smile dropped. "Don't you dare--"

SPLAT.

Snowball to the face.

(Name) laughed at Steve's now snowy hair and face. She made another snowball and threw it at him as soon as he got the left over powder off of his face. He ducked from the incoming projectile and looked up at her. "Oh, you're going to get it." He crouched down and made his own snowball from the gathering snow emanating out of (Name). He smirked and threw it at her.

(Name) yelped and fell over at the impact. She sat up and stared at him. "Oh, boy...you're in it now. I declare snow war on Steve!"

"I accept this declaration!" Steve agreed behind a laugh. Like they said, war broke out between the two. Snowballs being thrown at the rate of machine gun fire.

"Rogers! What the hell are you doing?!"

Steve stopped in mid-swing at the voice and looked toward the door. Standing in the doorway was Director Fury with a couple of armed agents. Steve dropped his snowball and straightened up. "...Sorry, sir. Snowball fight."

"Why is she out of her--?" Nick stopped his rant when he noticed that the room was filled with calm snow and ice. He stared at (Name), who hid behind Steve as soon as his...eye landed on her. "You got her to use her powers."

"Yes, sir. You have to keep her calm in order to have her powers under control. Any negative emotion will set her off uncontrollably." Steve motioned to (Name) that it was okay and she didn't have to hide. She hesitantly came out from behind him and stood in front of him, looking down and not making eye contact with the director or the two agents. "The reason why I took off her restrains is because she needs her hands to control everything. Yes, sometimes it just...appears but she needs her hands to control it. That's why we couldn't exactly get anywhere with her."

Nick nodded and made a grunt of approval. "Okay. But next time, get authorization before you do something like that. You might've gotten wounded."

Steve's eyes narrowed. "(Name) would never hurt me."

(Name) asked Nick in a small voice, "Can I go now...?"

"Well, you have proved that you can control your powers so...yes you can. But the question is, do you have anywhere to go?"

(Name)'s eyes saddened and her shoulders drooped. "No..." she mumbled.

"Then you have to stay--"

"She can stay with me."

Nick's eye showed surprise at Steve's outburst. "Stay with you? That's a nearly impossible request--"

"I don't care that it's impossible. I can watch her from there. And it's better than here, no offense, sir. I'll go through all the protocals and do them again if I have to. I want her to stay with me. After all, I know her the best and she knows me. Under me, she can be protected," Steve reasoned with the director. He put his hand on her shoulder. "See? She trusts me and I trust her."

Nick thought for a long second then made a sigh. He nodded. "Fine. She can stay with you. Just come with me so she has the proper identification." He led them out of the room nicknamed "the icebox".

(Name) looked up to Steve and smiled. "Thank you..."

Steve returned it. "You're welcome."

Natasha read over the daily report of S.H.E.I.L.D operations. She smiled and elbowed Clint playfully as she said, "See? See, I told you that Steve would fall for Snowflake."

Clint rolled his eyes. "You really need to find a hobby that doesn't involve finding Cap a girlfriend."
