I wanted to experiment and paint realistic details and qualities as practice on improving my illustration techniques in OpenCanvas 6. I played around with the brush creator and learned how to use clipping masks (it's about time!) and watched tutorials on hair and fur rendering. I used the base design sketch of Silver Spoon from my last illustration and I had to re-design her mane to allow for visual queues in terms of the direction, shape and flow so I could paint the hairs.
Another improvement I'd like to make in the future would be painting fur, in this case it doesn't really look like fur but it's a step up from just a block of colour.
