Description when the dead do walk
seek water's run
for this the dead will always shun
when water fails thee
then fire's thy friend
if neither guards
then it shall be thy end

The Abhorsen trilogy by Garth Nix was formative for me.  I read Sabriel when I was 11 or so, and she was the first strong female character I read.  I loved the world and the descriptions and the characters.  And I also still remember all the bells' names (:

I LOVED Nix growing up!!! I read the Keys to the Kingdom series as well as the Abhorsen books in high school, this brings back so many memories! Awesome job!

Thank you (:
I got to refresh my love for the series recently with Goldenhand.  It was a nice way to return to that weird world that he created.

I love re-reading books I used to enjoy, sometimes it seems almost new, sometimes it's a nostalgia-filled experience, and sometimes it ends up as a cringe-fest, like "Wait, I told other people to READ this?!" lol

But yeah, I really liked how he built his worlds up. Abhorsen was this kind of natural reveal of more and more about the world and KttK was more of a surprise around every turn as you learned things with the MC, but I thoroughly enjoyed both formats!

I must have missed keys to the kingdom, so I should pick it up.  I would like to learn more about the waste-land north of the Old Kingdom.  It is so strange and different.  I would love to be able to sit down with him and just listen to the mythology he has built up around the world.

I feel the same way about so many authors! Neil Gaiman is probably the first I'd like to ask though. He has a writing course thing online, but I just don't have time for it at the moment lol. It still blows my mind how much Paloini put into Eragon straight out of high school too. I know it's not the best work I've ever read, but the lore was DEEP for a total newbie.

I loved this set when I was in middle school! I especially adored the spell-bell-dog-friend thing.
