Description
I was walking, just as any day,
When I swear I saw Death turn my way.

He looked at me and raised a hand
Of bones and rot with a bloody band.

One finger rose to point to me,
and in his eyes I saw agony.

His eyes were red and sunken in,
His skull-like face was sallow and thin.

When he opened his mouth great bugs crawled out
Of a gaping hole and teeth without.

His lips were decayed and falling apart,
His tongue had rotted and was twisted and smart.

His voice rasped like the epitome of fear,
And his words were ones no mortal will hear:

A grueling screech was all he uttered;
The snakes around him hissed and stuttered.

In his eyes showed the pain of the damned -
The compensation he would demand.

Then he lowered his arm and turned away;
This one would not be my dying day.

He walked through the crowd and away through the town,
Some ways away, a man fell to the ground.

I stood, a marked woman, shaking but frozen,
Not knowing how or why I was chosen.

They say cheating Death is the best you can do,
But is it great still when he comes back for you?
