Description
This was inspired by a story I read many years ago now. It's one of those drawings that's been on my to-do list for ages. I did some preliminary sketches for it almost two years ago and any time I came across a photo that depicted the sort of pose I wanted, I'd save it to use as potential reference material later on. Finally, a couple weeks ago, when I couldn't sleep, I surprised myself by suggesting maybe I should try working on this drawing I've been meaning to do for forever. I have to say, I'm actually quite pleased with the end result. I don't make a big deal any time I do a halfway decent job on a piece of art, but I had a very specific idea in my head and I'm relieved I didn't screw it up,Related content

I didn't even read the description and immediately recognized it as the great opening scene from "A Governess for Richard"

Probably not, though I doubt that that has even crossed his mind, and even if it had, he shouldn't worry about it, since that isn't what's going to happen at all.

Perhaps not ... but based on the ladies' expressions (not to mention their crops), he might want to consider staying in and taking his chances with the crocs and hippos (if in Africa - or whatever other nasty critters lie in wait if elsewhere).
Like so much of your artwork, it's sexy, vaguely disturbing, and beautiful, and more - all rolled up into one. Thank you for sharing your talent!

If he doesn't have enough common sense to surface in a thick thatch of reeds or behind a taller embankment, then he deserves whatever plans they have for him. And I won't award myself any prizes for guessing just what those plans might be ...

Another great drawing Rocketdave - as always, you leave the narrative for the viewer to interpret, a lovely device. Whatever the story, I think the haughty young madam in the background is planning to wear out her crop on this naughty boy's bottom, I suspect. Now that would be something to illustrate!

Thanks for the great comment. As easy as it would be spell everything out in this case, I do enjoy leaving some things up to the viewer's imagination, though I will say that you're not that far off in your prediction.

I just looooove the look in his face. He knows he's screwed ... or about to be.
Seeing the color in his cheeks makes me smile almost as much as seeing the way the girl in the background handles her riding crop.

Pretty impressive -- worth the time and effort, I'd say. It does look like a story illustration.
Nice details, including the reflection in the ripples of the water around the guy's face.
