Description This is my first tutorial and though not a very exiting subject it's something I see asked so often in comments I thought it best to produce this for those who were unaware it could be done.

I'd be grateful for any suggestions for improving the overall look and layout, also If you spot any errors or omissions please let me know so I can correct them.

It would also be nice to know if you think this is useful in any way shape or form.

You are free to download the full image and use as you wish, I just ask that you don't alter anything nor remove my URL.

Thank you for that suggestion as I plan to update this tutorial at some point and shall look into this software as it's a few years since I last dabbled with Linux.

Haha, sorry, I was forgetting about the strange breed of Mac users. There's bound to be a good Mac version and I hope it works for you.

Useful tip! But I've just been taking photos of my work with my digital camera and cleaning up the image - is there any problem with this?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rockinfroggi In reply to Don-Berry [2011-06-25 18:21:30 +0000 UTC]

If it works for you and you are happy with the results then obviously there's nothing wrong with that method.
I wrote the tutorial for those who wish to scan or have had trouble joining two halves of an image in Photoshop or similar.

Ah okay -- yeah, it's just it seems to me scanning is a very popular choice and I was wondering if there was some problem with taking photos I was not aware of

thanks for the tutorial

Well just looking at your gallery your drawings look sharp and in focus so you are no doubt a lot better with a camera than myself and many others on here.

brilliant Gary! thank you for submitting this! its one of those things you never think to look for by way of tutorials but everybody wants to know!! lets get this some air time in the galleries!

Thank you for that, I wasn't sure how it would be received as it's not a very sexy subject. But having spent so many hours in peoples comments trying to explain this when they needed advice I thought a tutorial was long over due so I made that up yesterday.

I like it a lot!! You want me to give it a trial run for you? I have an A3 drawing I need to stitch for someone on here to get a print, but I'm having trouble

I'll be your guinea pig

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rockinfroggi In reply to pbird12 [2011-06-21 20:07:58 +0000 UTC]

That sounds like a great idea, you can let me know how easy it is to follow in case I need to add more info and also if it works for you. Plus if you have any probs you can bug me to point you in the right direction.

Just one thing though, are you small, furry, cute and squeak when picked up?

👍: 0 ⏩: 2

pbird12 In reply to Rockinfroggi [2011-06-21 20:31:24 +0000 UTC]

Oh, I know why you asked about the small furry thing ...... I am the doziest person I know

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rockinfroggi In reply to pbird12 [2011-06-21 20:38:45 +0000 UTC]

Lol, Hello dozy droopy draws, you saved me replying to that.

That was a quick stitchup you say almost no mark? can't tell on here but can you see the join? because none of mine ever have any sign of being joined.

Well it must have been easy to follow if someone like you could do it.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pbird12 In reply to Rockinfroggi [2011-06-21 23:17:14 +0000 UTC]

I can only see the very faintest trace of a tonal change on her nose, other than that, nothing, its brilliant

That's going to be such a lifesaver, its not fun matching it up yourself at all

Absolutely, if dozy old me can work it out, your onto a winner

Rockinfroggi In reply to pbird12 [2011-06-21 23:25:46 +0000 UTC]

Thanks for being my little furry tester, I was worried that it would either turn out to pointless or not clear enough to follow.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

pbird12 In reply to Rockinfroggi [2011-06-21 23:34:49 +0000 UTC]

No problem, thank you for clearing up what I couldn't quite get to grips with before ... I feel some A3 drawings in the making just so I can stitch them without the faffing about

Most definitely not pointless

pbird12 In reply to Rockinfroggi [2011-06-21 20:27:05 +0000 UTC]

Hi,

It was bloody crap!! Only joking, honestly it was brilliant and easy and I'm happy. Here's the one I stitched [link] almost no mark in sight

Um, no, not small, furry, cute or squeaky ... why'd you ask?

I had no idea about ICE. I even made a tutorial on how to do it manually using the GIMP.
Will give ICE a try, see how it works

This is awesome.. although i tend to fill up all my paper.. and it's a couple cm's larger than A3. I'll try it anyhow; your a life saver!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rockinfroggi In reply to Terry-L-T-Kitto [2011-06-21 17:21:27 +0000 UTC]

You raise a good point there. I've never done larger than A3 but it might be worth experimenting with a larger format and seeing if quartering with careful cropping would work.?

Hope it helps as is for now though and thank you for the comment.

Terry-L-T-Kitto In reply to Rockinfroggi [2011-06-21 17:25:01 +0000 UTC]

No worries, it was good of yout to do it for us. One other question i was going to ask is; does it automatically correct tones, contrasts so both halves match?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Rockinfroggi In reply to Terry-L-T-Kitto [2011-06-21 17:34:27 +0000 UTC]

Over all if you use the same settings on your scanner for both halves then it should be fine, you may find that the cut edge may be a little darker which is the reason for allowing sufficient overlap so the software can make the join past this area. Then when joined you can make any of your usual adjustments such as brightness and contrast.
