Description From Theoi.com-AMPHITRITE was the goddess queen of the sea, the wife of King Poseidon. Some say she was one of the fifty Nereides, others an Okeanis, but most simply describe her as the female personification of the sea: the loud-moaning mother of fish, seals and dolphins. As such she was essentially the same as Thalassa. When Poseidon first sought Amphitrite's hand in marriage, she fled his advances, and hid herself away near Atlas in the Ocean stream at the far ends of the earth. The dolphin-god Delphin eventually tracked her down and persuaded her to return to wed the sea-king.

Though she's not too important in the grand scale of the Mythological happenings of Greece, she's still one of my favorites mainly because of how relatable she is. She's not some super special snowflake or most beautiful of women or anything like that, she's just one of fifty or so mermaid like creatures that really was no different than any other. I'd imagine that the very fact she captured Poseidon's attention, the god of the very oceans she and her family dwelt in probably scared her out of her mind, as she more likely than not wondered why he would even bother with her and maybe why couldn't he choose one of her sisters instead? Though I think that's why I like their union story so much, it's far more realistic and relatable compared to some of the more rape filled stories or ones that involve trickery.

That last sentence in the description is kinda sad yet funny. It's kinda like choosing to like something because it's the most sane concept out of a bunch of messed up stories.

Indeed. Though It's hard to take a lot of things in Greek Mythology serious (Athena was literally born by Zeus's head being cracked open because of his massive headache), but yeah. Out of all the 'love' stories in the collection, it's at least one that doesn't involve one party not being in complete consent.

You think Greek Myth stuff is bad!? Heimdall from Norse mythos was born by NINE different women AT ONCE! Now THAT'S how you do a crazy concept!

Indeed. Not to mention that Loki, SOMEHOW, gave birth to a six legged horse or goat. And back to Greek, Aphrodite has two ways of how she was born, either just a child by Zeus, or when Zeus killed his father, a lump of his flesh fell into the ocean and became a giant oyster with her inside it as a fully grown woman.

Yeah, Loki shape shifted into a horse and did it with another. That baby horse grew into Slepnir (or something like that), and Odin flies around on it. Slepnir inspired the flying Reindeer that Santy uses.

*snickering* There was once a "fanfic" my brother showed me someone created where a chair was blocking the door into the Asgard palace and Loki turned himself into a female chair and distracted it by engaging intercourse with it. It was all told in this style that made it sound like a story from an older time, too. It was so stupid, but that was exactly the point.

An alive chair or a woman in a pearl. Hard to say what sounds more ridiculous.
