RockMiyabi — Is the Fire Extinguished?

Description Wasn't sure if I really should upload this, or just put it in scraps rather than make it a regular deviation, but what the heck.

A hastily thrown together oekaki done last night between 1 and 4am after I heard Atomic Fire was going to be closing down/moving. Just felt like I should do something after frequenting most of the site. Not the greatest lineart/coloring job because I rushed it, so no need for any real critiquing.

Heat here is looking a little down, since it was sad news. But I threw in the ghostly thought bubble of Fireman for some inspiration talk, as I liked his little 'fiery justice' speech in Powered Up. Thought it seemed fitting, as it's sad the site itself won't be around, but it isn't as if those who were a part of it are going away (nor is any of the content, really, as they are merging with The MegaMan Network. If any is still in the dark about the whole thing). So for all who were a part of AF, it's flame will still burn inside us. Awwwwww...

Heatman and Fireman are Copyright Capcom

Fireman: Don't you dare talk to me like that boy! Before you, you were just a pile of parts along with a chart of my blueprints and a zippo lighter in the Wily's pocket! I will teach a lesson, that will be welded to your aft crack!!!!!!!!!
Damn, I like this picture!

In the EXE anime, yes. Heatman is basically made with Fireman's data. I don't totally recall if Classic Heatman was made with some of Fireman's parts off the top of my head, but he could have been.

Ohh boy I remember stumbling across the site while looking for information about ZX Tunes and Mega Man Zero Complete works, I love Atomic-fire to death and I read the announcement at 3 am today D: Too bad it already redirects, I really wanted to save some pages (and some more artwork!) Amazing gallery and I love Fireman forever for his post about the Secret of Rockman.EXE Illustration book- went back to Taiwan in the summer hoping to find it somewhere, no luck but all MMZ comic volumes yay XD; though I ordered it online when I got back, and have to say I'm really thankful for having heard about it because it is simply amazing
Gotta love Tabby and the site even more with all the updates on the Zero Complete Works, I can't find anything about it on Udon Entertainment's site at all ack ... preordered that way back when it was announced on amazon XD

Uh oh this turned into talking about me me me that's bad bad bad I'll stop now, but not before saying atomic-fire had the greatest layout ever

Yeah, they just switched it to redirect this afternoon (for my timezone at least). The official art galleries are slowly being transferred, and they have told us the oekaki boards should be able to move fine, without any loss of pics. It's just going to take a little bit of time.

But if my hunch is correct, they wouldn't have done the redirect already if they didn't plan to have most of it re-uploaded very soon. So hopefully you won't have to wait too long. I'm sure there's a decent chance some of the staff will see your comment here and appreciate it. No worries about reminiscing.

Atomic Fire us shutting down??? OO T-T Failure...

Oekaki is drawn on the computer, right? <.< >.> From what I've gathered, that's the best guess I can make.

RockMiyabi In reply to HeavenSealed [2007-10-07 21:41:56 +0000 UTC]

Yep, the best way to explain it is it's like a combination of MSPaint and Photoshop. But it's just a type of java program some websites have for the community to draw. You choose a canvas size, and then just draw/color with either your tablet or mouse using the tools they have.

HeavenSealed In reply to RockMiyabi [2007-10-24 02:20:17 +0000 UTC]

RockMiyabi In reply to HeavenSealed [2007-10-24 06:34:08 +0000 UTC]

Um...you usually just find oekaki boards on certain sites (like AF's boards have relocated to TMMN) and you draw while logged in there. Lots of Japanese fanartists have their own boards as well.

Check the FAQs here: [link] for some more info; you might be able to download it for personal computer use. But I really don't know, haven't tried. I only have used the AF/TMNN board.

D:!! Nuuu! Atomic Fire was awesome by itself! I'll still go there for news but..it just won't feel the same when it's merged ;3;

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RockMiyabi In reply to Cheri-chan [2007-10-07 06:41:51 +0000 UTC]

Yeah, it's a totally different look from the news, to the flashier galleries, to the giant avatars in the forums...gonna take time to get used to, but it's minty fresh and shiny. I'm gonna miss the orange, though, as odd as it sounds. And the less generic/more fun Megaman site name.

Even though AF is going down, I hope he would at least stick around on Megaman Network. He seems to contribute things that no one else can.

Now the pic looks cool. It doesnt even look rushed to me. The colors, shadeing, and line work dont show indications of haste. Favorized!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RockMiyabi In reply to SaberRobert [2007-10-07 06:32:05 +0000 UTC]

Staying up to finish when I knew I was tired made it feel rushed at least. But thanks for making me feel like it wasn't and for the favorizing.

Yes, enough of the staff from AF will be staying onboard, including Heatman. It just won't quite have the same charming feel and look perhaps. But I think we can be assured that the new MMN will continue to be the best source for all our media goodies.

AF will be missed, and may MMN succeed.

RockMiyabi In reply to anime86fan [2007-10-07 06:26:54 +0000 UTC]

Thank you much. Indeed it will. For a site that was only up for less than 2 years, it rose quickly to the top of the community.

Hopefully the transition will be smooth, although we already had a few minor bumps moving On-Air's forums over to TMMN. But I'm sure everyone's working hard so that it will be a success.

I'm going to miss Heatman and AF...

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RockMiyabi In reply to General-RADIX [2007-10-07 06:22:14 +0000 UTC]

As much as I want to say Heat will still be around, he's sticking to his Nekomancer alias...so Heatman will be gone! Nooo~

I'm hoping the merger will be successful, I haven't truly cared much about the news layout at TMNN as it stands now, but things might change. I enjoyed how anybody could comment on AF's front page, without being registered in any way, so I would hope something similar is an option after the merger is complete. But hopefully we won't be missing much except bright orange and yellow colors.
