grew up listening to classic rock from these ages (especially stuff from the 60s, 70s, and 80s, not so much 90s) and my my has it influenced me in so many ways. i was first inspired to pick up a bass guitar by both lemmy from motorhead and mike from green day, and was inspired to pick it back up again by mikey way (later age, but whatever). it scares me to think that i could have very well been raised on pop and rap if i didn't choose the way i did. my favourite band would be one direction instead of many awesome rock bands, i could actually stand rap today, i would dress much differently and not have the awesome friends i know have and *shivers* it's scary as shit.

1960's- British Invasion, Psychedelic, "Garage" bands!

1970's- Prog Rock, beginnings of Metal, Glam Rock, beginnings of Punk/ New Wave!

1980's- New Wave, Post Punk, Industrial

1990's- Britpop, Shoegaze, early Grunge

Notice how my favorite genres change for each decade!!!

Cool.. I never really cared for the Eagles. I like Journey though. I've heard of Neil Young but never tried his music.

Here's how it is for me:
60's = fuck yeah
70's = awesome
80's = cheesy but still awesome
90's = some bands aren't too good at this time, but the bands that are good are just fuck yeah
2000's = everything is either completely awful (Nickelback, Flo Rida) or pretty good (Lady GaGa, FOB, MCR)
2010's = WHYYYYYY-hey that Melanie Martinez girl's actually pretty cool, BUT WHERE THE HELL ARE THOSE ROCKSTAR GUYS??Β

I honestly don't get the whole salt over emo music. I'm cool if you dislike it, but I've never understood why people got so pissy about the subculture. Like...It's a hybrid of the goth and punk subcultures, and is focused on emotions. It's not some sort of cult that eats children or anything like that. Considering how emotionless and bland most popular music is nowadays, emotional, over the top music is something we really need right now.

Indeed. I would love to become a rockstar one day, but I have no experience in music and I'm not sure if it'd be affordable for me at the moment. And I know being a rockstar's scary and dangerous and yadda yadda yadda. But come on! In a world where little kids can become internet celebrities just by lip syncing to some dumb popular song, a rockstar would at the very least shake things up a bit.

i guess it's because of how the culture was kinda... acting i guess at the time (my name is ebony dark'ness dementia raven way and i aint no prepz) and the rise of myspace led people to just dislike it as a whole. but honestly i'm totally fine with it, i find it funny and i kinda am an emo in some ways.Β and agreed so much, we do need truly emotional music (such as what mcr had, jesus that stuff was just- powerful at times) when music right now it's at it's lowest. bland, dull, unemotional 'songs' going on and on about women and butts and their glocks in their ferraris. at least we still have bands such as green day, thank god.

i'd love to be a rockstar someday, it's my dream to go up on stage and perform with a rock band. but you are right, it's not cheap and you'll have to put some serious time and effort into the instrument you want to play. trust me, i've picked up bass guitar, and it's not low cost at all. but honestly, it's kinda worth it in the end, you'll make music that hopefully will, as you said, shake things up a bit.

hopefully this made some sense, i'm a little scatterbrained today ^^

Dear god I remember My Immortal. XD I actually want to do a dramatic reading when I start my own YouTube channel, because that fanfic is both hilarious and embarrassing, especially since the main character and her clique friends like Marilyn Manson and claim to be goth, which, as a goth who enjoys Marilyn Manson, makes me feel kinda bad.

I think the main problem was the rise of scene kids. To me, many scene kids are wannabe emos/goths/"cool" kids that list thousands of bands on their Myspace page just to look more "edgy" and earn "scene points", despite probably having very little interest in the subcultures. Ironically enough, most people that claim to hate emos these days are the same kind of people scene kids are, the only difference is instead of wearing neon while listening to Blood on the Dancefloor, they instead call everything cringe and spam memes in your face just to look cool. :/

Hell, even if you didn't like over the top and hammy bands like MCR and Marilyn Manson, at least you can talk about how ridiculous they can be. I admit, I love that half naked pale dude with too much eyeliner, but even I find him hilarious sometimes, and that's ultimately the fun of his music. For crying out loud, at least he gave us my absolute favorite line in music history, "I am the god of fuck!".Β Β

IKR? Everything on the radio these days is either "I'MMA FUCK SOME FINE CHICKS I'M HORNY AF AND I CAN'T EVER TALK TO WOMEN IN A COHERENT MANNER", or empty, needlessly pretentious shit that tries to be artsy and ambient, but instead come across as boring and arrogant. Even in the 90s and before, some of our stupidest, most annoying musicians like Vanilla Ice were at least fun to laugh at and make fun of.

The main obstacle is being noticed, and getting yourself out there. Even though Bandcamp makes your music available, technically, it's very hard to be noticed by the public, and record labels are less and less easy to find. And that's not even getting into just getting your music noticed, as radio stations only play what's "accessible" and "radio friendly" (read; boring and generic). Getting your music noticed has always been extremely difficult, but on one hand, at least you can put it up for millions of people to see. On the other hand, it's very easy to be overshadowed, and getting your music knownΒ is a huge challenge.

It wasn't just Guns 'n' Roses in the 80s. There was The Cure, Depeche Mode, Bauhaus, Siousxie and the Banshees, Devo, and there was also Billy Idol and Madonna and Cyndi Lauper and...Okay, I admit, I'm an 80's dweeb. XD Hell, even the hair metal was alright (for me, personally).

For me, personally when it comes to 2010's, the worst music isn't the EDM crap. It's the white guy on acoustic guitar or white girl on piano type of stuff, like 7 Years by Lukas Graham. I know I already said this somewhere else, but if I wanted to listen to artistic music involving acoustic guitars and white males somehow related to years, I'll gladly have David Bowie's 5 Years instead, thank you very much.
