Description I know I'm late off the mark here, but I thought Mark Speight needed some form of tribute.

For those who don't know: Mark Speight was the popular TV presenter of SMart, a show which helped younger children learn to draw. A few months ago, his fiancee - Natasha Collins - was found dead in the bath in their home from a drugs overdose. Mark was taken into custody as the police believed he had supplied her with the Class A drug, Cocaine. Charges were dropped and he was released.

A few weeks after her death, he was planning a tribute (a concert I think) for her memory. However, we went missing at a train station and was later found in an abandoned part of the station, hanged.

He was infact my childhood hero, he helped me learn to draw. I'd make sure I saw every episode of SMart. So I think to simply let his death slip by was out of order on my part. He taught and influenced me, and many others, to draw.

So, to Mark Speight, you'll be sorely missed.

Smart was the best program on CBBC. their Cheesy special effects were the best on Children Telly

I haven't seen it as of late.
But it was the best back in the day.
Makes us sound old, but hey.

I miss him so much. Probably like many others, he's the reason I started drawing.

After he went missing, I went into denial. My dad said they've found him hanging in Paddington and I wouldn't believe him for about two weeks. I didn't think he was capable of killing himself, he always seemed so happy.

Mark, wherever you are, rest in peace x

I do too, I saw abit of smArt the other day, it's not the same without him. I think a generation pretty much learnt to draw through him.

I was in shock when he disappeared. Just kept hoping he'd turn up, all he needed was a little time away. Then when I heard he'd been found, I nearly cried.

Thanks for the fave aswell.

It really isn't. I keep hoping they'll show the reruns, but I bet they won't. They have an american guy now, Mike Fishetti, he's good, but no Mark.

You're welcome, stuff like this makes me wish I had a sub to use these

I adored Mark. I loved seeing him every week on sMart, Scratchy and Co. I was devastated when I heard he'd killed himself. It seemed so tragic for a person I remember as being happy, full of life - I could never picture him being sad, let alone sad enough to be able to kill himself.

Hope he found peace on the other side

Awww, man...

SMart was the reason I ever picked up a pencil and started to draw... In the good old days, after coming home from school and watching CBBC...

I'll miss him, I used to adore SMart :(
Infact I really wanted to send my pictures into the show, and thats a reason why I started drawing.

Aww, you should, I think he needs a little more in the way of tributes.

"Police are trying to look at the bigger picture of Mark Speight's death - Sent in by Laura, aged 8 from reading"
- Not my joke - I just thougth it was funny, a little uncouth but funny.

It's a very sad thing to lose such a great personality but also such a wonderful artist.
Mark will be sorely missed by anyone who had the fortune of spending thier childhoods glued to the tv watching his wacky antics.

I probably shouldn't admit that joke made me smile. Yet wince at the same time.
Lots of silly little jokes seem to surface when someone dies or goes missing.

It really was, I remember reading the news the day it was announced. I couldn't help but feel so sorry for him, it must have been terrible living with the thought of that he possibly had a hand in her death. Accidental or not.
I'm gonna miss switching through channels and catching the re-runs of SMart.
I guess they won't air them anymore.

Yeah that was one of those jokes I sort of laughed at but then felt awful for laughing.

They'll probably still air the re-runs. thats like saying they won't show Heath Ledger films on air anymore because he's dead

I remember hearing the ones after Madeline went missing. Makes you laugh but you feel so terrible. Someone's in absolute agony knowing that their daughter is gone, and you're laughing at their expense. Sorta comes with territory these days after a death or someone going missing.

I can just imagine kids all over the UK going: "Mum, wasn't he the one that died? Why's he still there?" O_O
Maybe thats just me

And that my dear is the fun of re-runs XD

yeah there was loads about Maddie and Shannon when she went missing. I felt like such a bad person for laughing.
I don't trust Kate McCann though, I really dont - just somethign baout her seems...'wrong'.

I got a little suspicous about Madeline when they said that there were traces of her hair in thier rental vehicle.
So me, being the upcoming conspiracy theorist, went "ooh, conspiracy. somethings not right."
But you're right, somethings not right about her.
Or Shannons mother for the point. She looked a little dodgy aswell.

I shot holes in that conspiracy theory as soon as I heard it.
But Kate just doesn't seem..distraugth enough if you know what I mean.
They found Shannon in her uncle's cupboard - she's in care now because social services don't believe her home and mother are suitable to care for a child in.
Which I agree with them.

I noticed that, Gerry was. For a man, I've never really seen a man cry, so I have no basis on how distraught they can get. But she seemed so ... emotionless.

I know my friend was alittle bit takenn aback when they put her in care.
But from what I've heard of the case, her mother didn't sound all that good.
She's facing charges of neglect and benift fraud as I remember.

RainbowJuice In reply to rockstars [2008-04-18 19:40:53 +0000 UTC]

Yeah.
Shannon's family had this thing on the tv, and her mother was sitting in her house, which was fucking disguisting, her other 5 kids running around as they liked eating a big packet of crisps and watching the tv.
Oh yeah, she looks worried bout her daughter doesn't she!

I ignored her case.
She never seemed bothered.
Even when she did cry it looked to fake to me.
