Description The real 6100 'Royal Scot' on a night mail to St. Pancras. I wonder why she's looking so frustrated. Maybe one of her relatives, a guy, has just left the UK for the states with her nameplates? Maybe Shap was harder to get up in the snow? Or perhaps pre-rebuild Royal Scots just look that way all the time. Who knows.

Not my most detailed image ever, but this was a test of using some more advanced previsualization sketching than most of my other drawings, where I just start doodling. The proportions still aren't perfect, but they're definitely getting there now.

Oh that is lovely work! It may be weird, but I really like the pre-rebuilt Scots. They just look so Midlandy and I love it!

"This is the Night Mail, crossing the border, bringing the cheque and the postal order. Letters for the rich, letters for the poor, the shop at the corner and the girl next door. Pulling up Beattock a steady climb, the gradient's against her, but she's on time..."

(Hey, someone's gotta come up with the iconic quote! )

I think she is like that as her day crew has put her in the shed, and slowly cooling her off, when a roster change, and she has to 'get out of the warm shed' and pull a night train on a cold snowy night, and she is not amused but, she is obligated to do it. And she is now imagining getting it over with, and getting some shut eye... she hopes.
