Oh Darling., Oh my Darling it is with an aching heart
I pen these words for fear the time has come for us to part.
I would not wish it so but still I fear that it is true
that parting is the final gift that I can give to you.

I strove to give you all I had and then to give you more;
what must I do? what can I find to cause that ice to thaw?
For you I faced the surgeons knife and would do so again
if that in some small measure served to take away this pain.

I vowed to be your husband and you vowed to be my wife
and these vows I will hold to till the ending of my life.
Yet if you find them burdensome, though I'd not have it so,
then if you must, beloved Darling, with my blessing, Go!

And if you go then do not look behind, for you might see
a man surrounded by the dreams of what he thought might be.
And as my heart would break upon the closing of that door
so round my feet my dreams lie broken, shattered on the floor.
