Description The title is a LIE. It was NOT easy!!! It was 4 hours of face masks and Mr. Clean Magic Eraser!!!
But I love how he turned out. X3Β 
Rodya's been getting the shaft lately on photos, and I knew why. It was because of his faceup. I tried to fix him up a little with some new eyes and tattoos and stuff, but I still couldn't interest myself in him that much. I finally woke up yesterday and decided out of the blue to give him a new faceup, so I went and collected all the tutorials in the world and discovered I needed a brush that was: 18/0, whatever that means, but I found one! It was the stuff of dreams. Look at his eyelashes. LOOK AT THEM!!!
It was terrifying to pop his head off, since he's strung so tightly, but I think the reasons my previous faceups failed so much were:
1. I was doing it with a bad brush
2. I was doing it with bad paint
3. I was doing it with his head attached to his body
4. I was doing it without Mr Super Clear
And I expected it to turn out ok??
So now all the pieces aligned exactly right and now Rodya is beautiful!!! His eyebrows are still not fantastic, but I like them better than before. I hope to go out and take his photo for my flowery series soon, but the tree I have my eye on is in my neighbor's yard, and it's kind of awkward to knock on their door and go: "Duhhh, can I borrow your tree to take pictures of my dolly? " So we'll see.

Thanks! I didn't actually do all of his lips though, I just darkened them and reglossed them because I've always liked the original company faceup's lips really well. They just didn't get his eyes quite right. I am SO happy with how I got his eyelashes though! It's like I have a whole new bjd! X3

Yeah, I know how you feel. Sometimes all you need is a new faceup to rekindle interest in an older doll. Speaking of which, I need time to renew Youzen's one too. He's been having his default faceup for almost 10 years now. Haha.

Yay for personalizing! It took me forever (um, a year and a half) to get Rodya's face how I like it, and now I feel like I love him extra because I did his face myself. X3 So there's a real upside to doing faceups yourself, even if you don't think they look perfect. I also found I improved a TON just by getting better brushes.

Lol, that happens to me quite a bit too. xPΒ  I liked the picture you did with you and Theorie as well, that one turned out very nice, I think.Β  Also, while I'm here, let me just say I like the way your pictures come out with your gang outdoors, I'd like to see more of those, especially since summer is here! Ooh, did you get it from Crime and Punishment too? XD That's where I found it. Rodya would probably be upset to learn he was named after an axe murderer, but Rodian Romanovitch Raskolinkoff (oh boy, I don't know if I remember exactly how to spell it anymore...) was such a nice boy at first!!!

You almost got it right!! Rodin Romanovic Raskolnikov is how you spell it and yes, I got it from there too my Rodya would be appaled that he was named after a murderer as well, but like you said, Raskolnikov was so nice in the beginning!!

Aah, ok. Darn those difficult Russian names. I changed the spelling a tiny bit on the first name (I think the translation my library has actually spelled it 'Rodion' but it varied from translation to translation), and then I found out that a Rodian is actually this horrible bug-like alien from Star Wars. Poor guy can't have a decent namesake no matter what!
I know though, I felt so bad forΒ Raskolnikov (haha, I had to copy your spelling and paste it here) the whole time! Still, I feel like it ended the best way possible, all things considered. At least he seemed to have been redeemed in the end.

And I've done that. My neighbor's front yard is gorgeous with a beautiful tree and a little hill with a little valley and I always go knock and say "Hey- can I borrow your yard" lol.
She doesn't usually mind and has yet to ask what for....lol.
Though I don't live by her now. but in a few more months I'll be back there.

XD Once I borrowed my neighbor's backyard while they were gone and they never knew. It was just in time too, because they mowed an hour afterward and all the lovely wildflowers were gone! Your neighbor's front yard sounds even prettier though. I'm glad you get to go back soon!

Thank you! Oh wow--that makes my 4 hours sound really pathetic. How many can you finish in that amount of time? My little paper mask didn't do much (I'm assuming you have a super heavy-duty professional one, being a professional faceup artist) in the way of hurting my face, but it did smell kind of funny, which made me think at first that I had Mr. Super Clear on it. XD

I modded a head and painted, painted another MSD (mot finished yet, needs a few more touches and eyelashes) and finished the horns I was working on. Quite productive. I could only work on 2 heads at the same time cos I was using the same base tone, otherwise that would've been hard since it takes a long time to clean the airbrush afterwards. Usually it takes me 1 or 2 days for an SD head, when it's a commission, when it's my own doll i can just to whatever lol

MSC is toxic and I spray outside, but my mask is also cos I airbrush and the fact that I was drilling and sanding resin >.<

Ooh, I bet he's pretty as a girl (that came out funny XD). My mom insisted he was one anyway from the company photos, until I got him home and put shorter hair on him.

I was terrified too. Especially with the chemicals. When I first started out in the hobby, I never thought I'd do a faceup, or even take off one of their heads. But now 18 months into it, I'm taking all kinds of crazy risks. Maybe I'll even restring one next...
