Description Composition commissioned and currently in exhibition at the Argentinian Natural Sciences Museum (Museo Argentino de Ciencias Naturales "Bernardino Rivadavia").
As you might have already guessed it depicts some representative genres in the evolution of elephants.
It was also fun and special to work into, because it's the first time I used 3D professionally. I'll be uploading some thumbs of the unpainted 3D models I did any time soon, so stay tuned.

PS: Yes, I'm still alive.

I love this picture. Elephants are one of my favorite mammals. It's a real shame they aren't gonna be around for too long...

This is one creative and imaginative view on the Proboscid family tree

FlashGordonArt [2015-11-14 22:57:15 +0000 UTC]

Looking at it now, I can see how Proboscideans seem to have evolved from a lifestyle nearly identical to hippopotamus and pigs, to being a browsing/grazing herbivore. The development of the trunk was no doubt the biggest key to this family's success, as it was a very useful tool indeed! Therefore, your illustration is successful in terms of clearly showing how natural selection can create all sorts of similar, yet ecologically varied biomorphs.

The attention given to the skin textures and the thick ivory tusks is really eye catching, too.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

Rodrigo-Vega In reply to AsterHyakinthou [2013-12-20 13:57:21 +0000 UTC]

Nope! As of 2010 The African forest elephant has been re-classified as a species different from the African bush elephant. Now we have 2 African elephants, Loxodonta africana and Loxodonta cyclotis.
3 Species Including the only living species of Elephas

Apparently not anymore, so said IRIRIV. He said the African Elephant was reclassified as 2 species, with the bush species separate from the plains/savannah species. Or something.
