Well the higher you go the less air, reducing drag. Lower drag can make the planes go faster ant, its alway handy to out climb your enemy, since not all surface to air missiels can go so high neither can some fighter jets

Thats faster than the international space station is going in orbit.... if you would go that fast inside the atmosphere, you would instantly burn up because the friction whit the air is so great that the heat will melt the plane
