Description Hey guys, here's an update. had this idea last night when I was watching a film. the glowing hair wasnt really intentional, but as I looked for inspiration, I stumbled upon thienbao 's work on deviantart. the background was inspired by lion king, if anyone noticed 8) here: [link]

you can find the WIP shots here: [link]
EDIT: fixed some areas, and flipped the image 8), worked on it a bit more.

She's beautiful. I love the background and the way you did her hair. The background looks so smooth and beautifully done, I love the water and the reflection in it. I love how she is glowing brightly. I love the smooth and beautiful hair. Nice choice of color too. The dress is gorgeous. I love the colors and the way you shaded it. It looks so fragile and so thin.I love her skin, beautifully and realistically done. I love the expression, very full of emotions. Great work on the piece of digital artwork. I like how she looks. She looks good on left

Wow, That's something alright! At first it looked like a photograph! Beautiful long glowing shade of teal hair! And You have added very interesting details ^^. I love her clothes, and not to mention, her outstanding pose. This is the work of a true artist. I believe you should submit this to an art museum, it's so amazing. Brilliant background, and if I did that, I would be very proud of myself. Interesting shades of colors, and a 3-Dish look, and the perfect image of being in the dark. This should be featured, if it isn't already. You are a TRUE artist.

Wow, very beautiful! I love the twist on the old Disney scene too!
The vision is amazing. Love the way the color all blend together, glad you didn't use black hair. It wouldn't have fit properly. The way she pops out of the picture is wonderful, and the lighting is great.
I'm glad you flipped the picture, it just fits better going this way, because the human mind reads things left to right, so you see the girl first, and not the grass and water.
I love the anatomy of this, everything is properly fitting, and great. Although, the shading on the arms is a little off, and makes it look a little flat. Other than that great job.
The only downside to this is the originality. I've seen this kind of thing before, and that is the only bad thing I can see about this.

Truly a beautiful color balance and palette, and her hair and clothes can easily be seen as the focal point to the piece as the further you span out the duller the detail becomes.

I immediately thought of the lion king when I looked at this even before reading the artists comment. Even though her expression is almost emotionless with peering curiosity into the water, her hands do not seem as calm as her face. Her face is as relaxed and serene as the water, but her hands (particularly her left one) seems more tense and gripping then the rest of her body. Its interesting that there are so many subtle contrasts in a piece that at first glance looks perfectly balanced and its parts integrating.
Anatomy and shading blends well, my only nit pick would be towards her left leg, which although seems proportional tho the rest of her body, doesn't quite seem functional to the rock she is sitting on.
Overall a wonderful piece like your other digital paintings.

This is truly beautiful! I enjoy the subject matter a lot, and how you interpreted/tweaked a famous Disney scene. e.deviantart.com/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />

I'm really glad that you gave her bright glowing hair instead of black hair, as the black wouldn't have matched the color balance. That being said, the color scheme is fantastic, with the warmer green-blues juxtaposed against the colder blues. The eye just follows the painting in smooth manner.

I also think you made a good choice on flipping the image, for some reason, viewing it from this side reads better. I can't quite pinpoint why-- it might have to do with the direction of the grass.

As far as the anatomy goes, it's really good in terms of proportion. I think the shading makes some areas seem very flat though, such as her left arm. The arms seem too dark as well, seeing as the intensity of the bottom light source is fairly weak in comparison with her head.

The whole picture, while magical, sort of lacks a magical air to it. For example, there seems to be a light source from below the water, but the water is murky. I see some suggestions of giving her a solid reflection, and I second that sentiment.

The glows around could be a little stronger too, and I feel that the grass in front should also have a sliver of light at the edges from her hair. Perhaps to increase the mystical mood, some glowing lights or such could be sprayed into the air.

Haha I can't believe I even touched your painting, but I can't quite explain in words, but hopefully this sufficiently illustrates what I want to say: [link]

Overall the painting is great, I admire your technique a lot! e.deviantart.com/emoticons/s/s… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Smile)" />

thanks!

i started off with what u you showed in ur edit, but i toned it down a lot because it flattens the image.

it did have loads of sparkly bits, but i wanted it to be subtle ^^,

plus the hair, its not intentionally glowing, it just emits a glow but its not reflective 8_D if u know what i mean... thats why id doesnt bounce back and forth with its surroundings. say... like the film star dust.

also, the she is not the light source, just to clarify that XD.... the water is...

pseudolirium In reply to Roggles [2009-05-03 02:49:12 +0000 UTC]

Very true, subtle can work out well.

Ok, that makes more sense then. I just thought that since the hair is glowing so intensely, it may be able to reflect.

Yeah, I know the light source is the water, which is why I think it's more important to have some kind of solid reflection or heavier glow from the water, so that it is established better.

Thanks for reading my critique!

Wow! This is simply an amazing piece. You're a very skilled artist and I've loved your works for quite some time now. Let me start off by saying, that I love the colors in this picture. They give a bit of a mysterious vibe off, at least to me.

The girl looks really well drawn out. Your anatomy is is excellent and she doesn't look to be out of balance anywhere. Truly well done.

One thing that I've noticed is that even though the reflection on her hair is bright, the water really doesn't reflect that. This could be from watching the Lion King too many times, but when Simba was in a situation like this, you could see his whole reflection in the water, but with her you can barely make it out. Especially since her hair is so bright, it just feels as if you should be able to see the reflection a little bit better.

There's also something about the background, the way the tall grass ends bothers me a little. There isn't anything beyond it, such as a moon or anything in the distance. In my opinion, it just feels as if something should be there.

Overall, this painting is extremely well done, and one of the best that I have looked at in a long time. You are a very skilled artist, and you demonstrate that in this piece, and each piece that you create. Keep up the amazing work in the future.

Very, very beautiful. The lining and everything on the actuall person. The light is so well drawn, like how it radiates arund her head and how it glows in her hair and then fades away into darkness. The shadows are also very nice, noticable not overtoned and perfectly fine lines and lighting, on every feature of the girl. I especially like how the bottom part of her dress glows and how the actual dress is well textured. The thing is, everything else around her is somewhat incomplete. You feel theres something missing. The little lighting on her legs and the slight little waves on the water are the end of it. The grass is really well made but you could see that it has some lag, it's artificial and not finely drawn, the lines aren't as thin as they are on the girl, separating them into two seperate dimensions instead of putting them in the same place, in fact, although the BACK grass is beautiful, it looks flat and 2 dimennsional, while the girl is everything but that. The front grass would be perfectly fine if only the lines were a bit less thick, a bit more detailed and again, a bit more fine like the lines on the girl's dress. Overall, it's very beautiful including the small flaws. But these flaws have dramatic affect on an image like this one. Aside from that. It's a perfect picture. Sorry if I'm being strict. I'm a terrible critic!

Already said it in comments, but I guess that wasn't the right place.
Considering the way her hair glow, the water should reflect it a lot more than it does. The glow's echo is actually stronger on the underside of the rock than it is anywhere else, which makes it a bit unbalanced.
It might break a bit the focus on her head, though. But it's the only thing that looks obviously off to me.
Maybe the right hip's off too, but it's not disturbing at all.
It doesn't mean that the picture as a whole doesn't look any less beautiful.

I love it. Its like the hair lis glowing, but its not the only source of light…it makes the whole thing more mysterious then if it was rendered as if the hair was a light bulb.
