Description So yah, another Pathfinder concept brought to life with the help of the talented Epifex . Be sure to visit his gallery!

I was glancing over the Ifrit race and I noticed that their inspiration was clearly Arabic in nature, leading my mind to consider "Well, surely they can't ALL live in deserts. Where else would you find a people descended from fire elementals?" And then it hit me: volcanoes.

A few songs that helped the concept along...
"Pompeii" by Bastille
"He Mele No Lilo" from Disney's "Lilo and Stitch"
"Everlasting Words" from Monster Hunter Tri

EDIT 3/19/2017: Went back and revamped this character as an Unchained Summoner of the Pyroclast Archetype, also reworked the story more to my liking. Statblock undergone complete overhaul.

EDIT 10/11/2018: Vanuata has reached her final re-building, now standing as an Overwhelming Soul Kineticist with the Fire and Earth for some Magma-Blasting power. Her story has also been reworked into something I like a lot more than her past writeup.

Vanuata

"Long ago, our people were slaves to Ymeri, the Lord of Fire, and forced by her mighty will to serve her wicked purpose. We knew many years of suffering, and in carrying out Ymeri's design, many others suffered as well. We longed to be free, no longer did we wish to cause pain unto others. One among us, a young woman named Manaia, begged the gods for their aid, but all were consumed amid their own battles, and our little island was of no great importance in their sight. But as she began to despair, she heard a voice, calling out to her from the heart of the island. She ran as fast as she could, a brave and perilous journey through untold danger, all for the sake of the people she loved so very much. There, atop the mountain, she met Valani, the Fireshaker! He promised to give Manaia a gift, the gift of flame. Manaia was hurt; fire had done enough for her people, and all she knew of fire was its power for destruction. But Valani was wise: he taught her the truth of flame, for when the old has burned away, new life can rise from the ashes. She carried this truth in her heart as she led our people against the Lord of Fire, and the fearsome leader of her army: Laoa Oti! When all hope seemed lost, Valani himself appeared before Laoa Oti and pressed him deep beneath the earth, freeing our people for once and forever! So to this day we honor Manaia's courage by following her footsteps, and give Valani our thanks for our freedom and the beauty of our island." - Grandmother Huhana

Across the sea to the west of Garund lies the island of Motu Ahi, an island completely inhabited by a unique breed of Ifrit. Rather than bearing brass skin and heads of flickering flame, the Ifrit of Motu Ahi have dark skin the color of volcanic rock and locks of smooth, glowing magma.

In their legends, they were once enslaved by the evil Elemental Lord of Fire, Ymeri, who used them to further her own desires for destruction and wickedness. One of their ancient heroes, Manaia, beseeched the gods for help, but most were occupied with their own sworn foes to lend any aid to the little island. The Azata Lord Valani, while not as powerful as a full god, was still enough of a match for Ymeri, and was able to connect with the island through the large volcano at its center. He called out to answer Manaia, and she managed to evade Ymeri's forces to meet with his aspect at the crater peak.

While Ifrit have an affinity for fire magics, fire magic was useless against Ymeri's servants, but Valani bestowed a greater gift upon Manaia. Rather than spellcasting, he granted her his own understanding of fire and earth, pyrokinesis and geokinesis, which not only allowed Manaia to defend herself against Ymeri's minions, but even have some degree of control over them. While she could not dominate them entirely, she could hold them long enough for others to banish or dispatch them. Ymeri was furious, and sent one of her most powerful servants, an elder magma elemental the inhabitants of Motu Ahi call Laoa Oti, "The Choking Death", as the heat and smoke he generated was enough to stifle the breath of any who drew too close to him.

While he could not manifest entirely, Valani extended his aspect through Motu Ahi's volcano and assisted the islanders in sealing Laoa Oti away deep underground. Frustrated and furious, Ymeri decided the island and its people were not worth her time and effort, for she would never call this liberation of Motu Ahi a defeat. It is considered ill fortune to mock the elemental lord or to say that she was defeated, as she might trouble herself with a second conquest if she felt slighted enough.

So every year the people of Motu Ahi take a pilgrimage following the path Manaia took to the island volcano, and perform a ceremony honoring Valani there. Some who partake in the celebration return with the twin gifts of fire and earth, and are considered blessed by the Fireshaker.

Vanuata's family was blessed with the gift, though it skips occasionally. She is still figuring out how to properly use it, something her parents say will happen when she understands the truth that Valani taught Manaia years ago. Fire is a force of destruction, yes, but after burning away what is old and no longer able to go on, the ashes it leaves behind make the earth fertile, bringing life and renewal.

Vanuata is filled with the wild and free nature of flame, and so she wishes to explore the world beyond Motu Ahi. There are many islands on the sea, and the great continents of Avistand and Garund are filled with amazing sights to see and wonders to witness. Adventurous and spirited, Vanuata is ready to embark on the journey of a lifetime.

Overwhelming Soul Archetype
Mind Over Matter (Ex)
An overwhelming soul uses her Charisma modifier instead of her Constitution modifier to determine her damage with wild talents, the DCs of Constitutionbased wild talents, the duration of wild talents with a Constitution-based duration, her bonus on concentration checks for wild talents, and the other Constitutionbased effects of all her wild talents.

She adds Bluff and Diplomacy to her list of kineticist class skills.

This ability alters the kineticist’s class skills and the key ability score of wild talents.

Mental Prowess (Su)
An overwhelming soul’s mind is strong enough to protect her body from the stress of channeling the elements. However, in exchange, she is unable to push her limits quite as far as other kineticists.

She can’t choose to accept burn, though she can use wild talents with a burn cost if she can reduce that cost to 0 points with abilities such as gather power and infusion specialization. If she would be forced to accept burn against her will (for example, if she fails a concentration check), instead of taking burn she takes 1 temporary negative level, which never kills her and can’t be removed with restoration or greater restoration, but which disappears automatically after 24 hours. At 6th level, once per day, she can reduce the total burn cost of any wild talent by 1.

She can use this ability an additional time per day at 10th level and every 4 levels thereafter.

This ability alters burn and replaces internal buffer.

Overwhelming Power (Ex)
At 3rd level, an overwhelming soul gains a +1 bonus on attack rolls and damage rolls with her kinetic blasts. The damage bonus doesn’t apply to kinetic blade, kinetic whip, or other infusions that don’t apply the damage bonus from elemental overflow.

This bonus increases by 1 at 6th level and every 3 levels thereafter.

This ability replaces elemental overflow.
