I was afraid of them, until today I experienced a Little brown bat hanging out on the door of our horse stall. Β When I opened the door to get out of the barn (not the stall door though), He/she? Β I always call it a he.. Β He covered his face with his wings. Β I was afraid it would flare like a Hawk and show its fangs.. He just hid his face. I must admit that they are cute, just so long as he stays out of my house. Β Even then we don't kill them, we just open the door and kinda chase them out.. Β lol. Β

I wish there was a way I could help stop the white fungus disease.

I know, the poor wittle things. They had a white-nose syndrome preventative program when I went to mammoth cave, Dad and I had to make sure we didn't have on any of the same clothing/accessories we'd had on when we visited a different cave, and we all had to walk through a soapy lysol solution when we came out of the cave so we wouldn't carry any spores with us. I hope they find a cure the fungus soon, I love little brown bats!

bats are the only group of mammals that can truely fly.
if that doesn't automatically grant them the right to be saved, then I don't know what does :I

wolves are neat but many wolf species are on the re-bound (the gray wolf isn't even a threatened species anymore ) and its pretty easy to monitor their numbers and movement. unfortunately, because bats roost all over(attics, crawlspaces, abandoned buildings, barns, caves, hollow trees, matted pine branches, etc) and don't really have a defined territory they are a bit harder to track and count. the death count only includes caves we know about and so could be much higher. whats even more disturbing is that no one knows how the fungus spreads and scientists have very few clues how to stop it
they are cool little creatures though we have a bunch of little browns living in the forest behind my house, i love to watch them at night, they are capable of movements in flight that would probably dis-joint the wings on most species of birds and they can eat their body weight in mosquito sized insects in a night
when your house is surrounded by swamp on three sides the fewer bugs the better XD

All the more of a reason to go into biological science at university. Hopefully something can be done to fight the fungus. But even then it is fighting against cruel nature's will.
