Description Which Sheik do you prefer? lolz xD

I personally like both - I often think of girl Sheik because it seems very much favored and is basically canon in the smash world *sweatdrop*...however I am a fan of dude-Sheik as well ~ I think a guy-form would be a better disguise and find it generally more interesting than just Zelda getting a tan and contacts, lol.

(zoom in if it looks a bit blurry >_<)

Meh I tend to stray more to Male Sheik since so many female Sheik fans tend to be very arrogant. :/ I try not to generalize them like "How can people see Sheik with boobs? Fap material!" >:U But I don't like to try to sink to their level XP

thanks I'll do same to yours too ;u;

I prefer male Ocarina!Sheik and female Brawl!Sheik And I consider both to be seperate characters from their respective Zeldas (Ocarina!Zelda and TwilightPrincess!Zelda) - Ocarina!Sheik for plenty of tl;dr reasons that will take too long to go in to, and Brawl!Sheik because, well, her description explicitely describes her as a different character. "Use Zelda's down special move to transform into Sheik! Once you do so, you’ll have access to a new character completely unique from Zelda."

I wrote more here [link] if you're interested! It mostly focuses on Ocarina!Sheik, but it mentions Brawl!Sheik a bit as well.

Oo yes I am interested, I shall read this lol

I like the idea that characters can be viewed separately throughout games - like in the various theories of the LOZ timeline. I think its fun that game characters/plots can be studied/discussed like this xD

Have fun!

And yeah - well, Twilight Princess is supposed to be either a hundred or 'hundreds' (there may have been some mistranslation, there?) of years after Ocarina, as stated by the game's producer, Eiji Aonuma. So the Zelda, the Sheik, the Link, et cetera from Ocarina of Time are dead and mostly gone (I still reckon the Hero's Shade is the spirit of Link from Ocarina - nearly all of the howling stone songs are from OoT and MM!), and it's a new cast of characters.

Of course, going by this, there's been like... ten Links and Zeldas over the series. Fun!

I dunno. I like the idea of a guy-Sheik. But I've always known her as Female. I like the idea of it being Zelda with a tan and contacts more because it kinda makes her into a stronger figure. She's always just been the Princess. She's not in another castle, she's right here helping out whenever she can.

WOW! i didnt know that, his voice sounds liek a guy. JP or US?
I know the 1st and 2nd gen Ash had a female voice but it still sounded boyish.
The thing about Sheiks voice i was saying is that Sheiks screams in melee and brawl and OoT are feminine like screams, unlike what a guy would scream like.
XD, your icon distracts me lol

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ryttu3k In reply to SheikfreakIvan [2011-04-16 23:30:21 +0000 UTC]

Japanese! (US is still a male voice actor - I've actually met Sean Schemmel a few times at conventions. We have identical hair XD) The same woman [link] has voiced him from childhood to adulthood - I've only seen DBZ in Japanese a few times, but it's definitely a higher voice for a dude. Actually, his scream is sorta similar to Sheik's XD Speaking voice: [link] Random yells and strained dialogue: [link]

And yeah, see, it's still interpretable XD;; You've heard the phrase "scream like a girl", right? That's not exclusive just to girls, and I'm pretty sure I'd at least yelp if I got thrown headfirst down a flight of stairs by an invisible beastie. And his voice is distinctly deeper than Zelda's, who's basically a soprano - I'd put Sheik at a highish tenor/low alto. Pretty high, but still within the realistic range for a young male. And, well, see the clips with Goku!

And hee. It does that XD

Some girls do a deeper voice, then again the voice is muffled by the cowl. XD. Brawl Sheik is just so awesome

Go see the clips I linked! 8D

Ehh, true. And some guys have a higher voice. I think we'll have to call neutral on this, since Sheik's voice IS notably deeper than Zelda's, no matter how you cut it.

I can't see the clips, YouTube won't load on my ipod, I've gotta get if restored. DX.
I have a question though. Why are the brawl trophies regarded as non canon.
The info on the Trophies is all correct, the only thing that doesn't match up with they're corresponding games in smash bros are the storylines and games.
All trophy info is correct and they have to do with the games.

ryttu3k In reply to SheikfreakIvan [2011-04-25 05:54:04 +0000 UTC]

Aww, that's a shame!

It's not so much that they're regarded as non-canon, it's more that they're regarded as a secondary source. Just because they were written by Nintendo doesn't mean they're right - for a very good example, look at the 'encyclopedia' on zelda.com. It is wrong in SO MANY places! It claims that Ocarina has seven medallions, that Link uses them to seal Ganondorf, it claims that Sheik trapped Bongo Bongo in the well (what)... it claims that, in Wind Waker, Medli is the Rito Princess... it's just completely WRONG. And, of course, it claims that Sheik is a girl.

Brawl trophies, along with Melee trophies, are also problematic because Nintendo of America REWROTE them. Sheik originally had no gender specified, it was the translation team that made the decision to change him into a girl. Same goes for the Japanese DOJO site - you can't claim that it's the official stance of Nintendo that Sheik is female, since they never specify one way or another. It's only Nintendo of AMERICA that makes that claim. They've changed genders of characters before in translations - Vivian, from Mario, is supposed to be male. But you can't suggest anything even a bit gay in America, oh noes, so he gets changed into a girl. The original translation says, "One of the shadow group, Vivian appears to be a girl but is really a boy." In English, he's just a girl.

I envy your vast knoledge of Nintendo facts ^_^.

Im just glad Sheik is female in America. XD

I looked up the thing about Vivian, it said something about Beldam calling Vivian a boy/man to insult Vivian, and it couldt be properly translated i think

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

ryttu3k In reply to SheikfreakIvan [2011-04-27 12:01:38 +0000 UTC]

Ehh... maybe. Some things just don't translate, I guess.

Heh. See, the thing is, I don't generally consider translations to be the 'official' versions. It's like dubbed anime. In the series about a magical girl who collects magical cards, her best friend is a Nadeshiko-type called Tomoyo, not a valley girl called Madison, her brother and his best friend are romantically involved (and are called Touya and Yukito, not Tori and Julian), Nakuru is genderless, and Tomoyo is in love with Sakura, not being a personality-less drone because they cut everything that suggests that omg, some people aren't straight.

...And sorry, that got a bit ranty XD;; Suffice to say, the Japanese version is the real version, the American version is an abomination that should never be spoken of. Now, granted, the American translation of Ocarina is pretty good, especially since they still keep Sheik as male (male pronouns!), but the Japanese really is the real version.

I guess not, theres this weird tranlation in french, you should try it, its kinda funny
got to
[link]
translate from english to french
Take a dirty picturefor me
then copy the translation and translate from French to English.
Not everyone can play the japanese version though, i wonder what Ruto says in the spanish version.

ryttu3k In reply to SheikfreakIvan [2011-05-04 22:22:27 +0000 UTC]

Wait, what am I translating here? And again, it doesn't matter what gets said in other versions, because they're all subject to their translation teams. The ONLY revelent dialogue is the Japanese dialogue, since that's the one that follows the originally intended script. Not some made-up whatsits.

I mean, I believe one of the foreign-language versions of Brawl (German, I think?) refers to Sheik with male pronouns. Since that AND English are both translations of the gender-free Japanese, they're both as canonical as each other, meaning Brawl!Sheik is both male and female. Neither is more 'real' than the other. You can personally choose to follow the English translation, but you can't say that someone who follows the German translation is wrong.

SheikfreakIvan In reply to ryttu3k [2011-05-05 16:50:42 +0000 UTC]

Its just this thing that translates weird.
In the end
"Take a dirty picture for me" ends up translating back to "Take of picture of me slut"

Its only relevant in Japan. Do you play only the japanese version of every game, only watch japanese pokemon movies and episodes?

In OoT the text is highlighted on important keywords or phrases, "he" wasnt highlighted in the sentence that Ruto said neither was "man".

Ill ask my friend, she lives in germany and has brawl.

ryttu3k In reply to SheikfreakIvan [2011-05-05 23:28:34 +0000 UTC]

Once again proving my point! (Are you sure you're not on my side? ) You've just said so yourself - translations are weird.

And no, because I don't actually read Japanese (although if I COULD find subtitled versions of anything, I'd definitely watch those instead). But it's still revelent because the Japanese versions are more 'real'. Even though I don't understand Japanese, I still understand that the best friend in Cardcaptor Sakura is named Tomoyo, not Madison.

Yes, emphisising that it's not meant to be a big deal! Sheik is just some guy. We're not supposed to suspect anything. Ruto views him as male. Link, by his non-reaction, also views him as male. That means that Sheik is INTENDED to be viewed as male, 'secretly a girl' or otherwise.

Thanks, I've been curious about it! Our copy disappeared, so if it has the other languages on it, I can't check I think it was the German version, anyway.

Its actually a translation of english back to english, not from one language to the other.
Japanese is hard to read, i can read Romaji just fine, a lot of the letters are pronounced just like they are in spanish so its no problem, except, i dont know what it means:iconzeldafcepalmplz:

Heh I don't know if the voice actor really means much... I could see many reasons why they would recycle actors (plus she does use a different kind of voice - might just be part of game disguise or could suggest a whole different character who knows) + Japan often seems to use female voice actors for male characters too.

However I am not necessarily disagreeing with you. I just like Sheiks of either gender xD.

Hm I do like Brawl's design (except the braid... for some reason just not a fan)
I just wanted something simple and was more familiar with OOT Sheik. ^o^

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

SheikfreakIvan In reply to Roiahku [2011-04-16 20:06:58 +0000 UTC]

Sheik's screams are femine though, as for the JP male characters with the female voice actors the screams/voice still sound male, but with Sheik the voice is completely feminine, theres no trace of a male voice.
The baid is awesome XD, i just dont like the metal tip at the end. I was drawing it in photoshop in class, i was zoomed in on it at someone though it was a P-nis lol.
I like how Sheik is way more girlish in Brawl XD when she drinks the tea and her hand is on her hips XD

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Roiahku In reply to SheikfreakIvan [2011-04-16 22:01:54 +0000 UTC]

LOL Actually I think it might just be the metal tip that bothers me too xD
I don't mind how Brawl 'girlitized' Sheik (lol)- I suppose they could use some more females in there anyway haha

I'd like to go back and listen to their voices again. I think it may be hard to convince many male-Sheik fans on physical evidence because girly-men ARE common haha xD And also...being a magical-form of Zelda means Sheik could really be like...anything. Like a random mix of gender or even genderless LOL- although don't get me wrong I am not trying to say I think Sheik is a random hermaphrodite person by any stretch. xD xD

There just isn't explicit evidence of anything and some of us just like that kind of gender ambiguity and also possibly alternate versions of characters (like you find in things like the LOZ split-timeline theories).

--lol long-post is long, thanks for hearing me out tho xD--

SheikfreakIvan In reply to Roiahku [2011-04-23 20:12:14 +0000 UTC]

You can hear the voices clearly in the smash bros sound test option.

I got an email from Nintendo stating the Sheik is a female character
XD i love the split timeline theory.
then again theres Tetra. Tetra and her Zelda forms voice is a little different, skin color, hair color. Tetra's being a little darker. yet they are the same person. the same could go for Sheik, just changing the eye skin and hair color. putting some pads on her legs and shoulders, binding her breasts, muffling her voice and pulling her hair forward to form bangs. Voila, youve gotten Sheik. Also, Sheik has no big bulge, only a slightly small "hill" which would be common in women wearing something skin tight around that area.

no prob, i love talking about Sheik XD
