Description This is the Kingfisher.
you can see it's a female by the red under her beek.

she stands on a stick, waiting for a fish to swim nearby and then dives directly on it spearing it with her beek and returning to the branch.
then she starts spinning her head agresively to release the fish so she would be able to swallow it as a whole.
I cought this image in the second she was about to catch the fish after releasing from her beek.

A little about the technique:
I was sitting in a camouflage tent near a branch I placed infront of me and waited for about an hour until she felt comfortable anough to aproach to new and incredible comfortable stick.
I used my D200 with Sigma 120-300 and X1.4 teleconverter at 420mm F/8, 1/400, ISO 400 on a tripod, of course.
Taken at Rishon Lezion, Israel.

Best regards,

Roie Galitz

This shot is amazing and very well timed. Are those drops of water on the bird's breast? I love how the picture is sharp enough to show those little details, especially on the colourful feathers.

I have to say that I am totally in love with this photo. There are quite a few good kingfisher photos around, but I have to say this one is truly outstanding.

I'd like to mention that I really enjoyed reading your description. I found it very helpful and descriptive. It helped me and I'm sure others to understand the photo a little better... understand what's going on and why. The technique and specs are also welcomed. So thank you for sharing that with us!

So now back to the photo... the depth of field is simply spot on. I just adore the focus and how everything is so sharp with so much clarity. Just the way it should be. Your timing and patience really paid off. It's amazing to see the kingfisher in action! Really lovely colours as well. The only thing I can think of is that there could be a little more contrast, but other than that I'd say for me, the shot is perfect.

Such a fantastic photo. It reminds me of something that should be in a national geographic magazine. Outstanding work indeed and thank you for sharing your photo and techniques with us all.

I love kingfishers; we used to have one around here. ^_^ But then his favorite tree fell over in a storm, and I haven't seen him since.
But I digress! Superb details on this one! I keep getting drawn towards her determined look, and her bright wing. ^_^
